WhatsApp is one of the most widely used messaging apps, and this also makes it a popular target for scammers and hackers. If you’ve been automatically logged out of your WhatsApp account, then it is not just another technical glitch because WhatsApp doesn’t just log users out unexpectedly. If that happened to you, then it means that either your account has been hacked or someone is attempting to steal your identity. While WhatsApp does offer basic protection to keep your account safe, hackers remains a big threat. In this guide, I’ll walk you through the simple steps on how to recover your WhatsApp account.

Signs that your WhatsApp account is compromised

Getting logged out from your device is one of the biggest indicators that your WhatsApp account has been compromised. You can also look for other signs like an unexpected verification code or a login notification that you did not request.

In addition to the abovementioned, you can also ask your family members and friends if they have received any suspicious messages from your WhatsApp account. Especially if you have asked them for financial assistance. Moreover, also ask your loved ones to check if there are any changes made to your profile picture or if a WhatsApp status has been posted.

How to recover your WhatsApp account

In case you are logged out from your WhatsApp account and in case your account is being hacked, then it would be wise for you to make use of the below-mentioned steps to retrieve your WhatsApp account.

1. First, you will need to disable all kinds of call forwarding. To do so, simply enter #21# on your mobile application and dial it.

2. You will now be required to log in to the support page of WhatsApp. From there, you will find a link to recover your account.

3. Once you open the form, you’ll be asked if you are a law enforcement officer who is submitting a legal request. You just need to select No.

4. Following that you need to enter your phone number.

5. Next, look for the ‘My account has been hacked’ option from the available list of issues and select it.

6. In the description box, explain that you were logged out of WhatsApp unexpectedly and are unable to log back into your account.

7. Provide your personal information and complete the online formalities.

8. Lastly, verify all the information and click the Send button to submit the report via WhatsApp.

The Meta officials will verify your complaint now, and you’ll be able to recover your WhatsApp account in the next few hours. However, do note that after recovering access to your account, enable the two-step verification and avoid sharing verification codes with anyone to improve account security.
