Apple has confirmed the release date for the macOS 27 Golden Gate and it is sooner than you think. The software will be available from September 14, arriving alongside iOS 27. The update brings several changes to the way Mac users interact with their devices, including new AI features powered by Siri, improvements to Spotlight and Safari, and a refreshed Liquid Glass interface. Apple is also adding new parental controls, accessibility features and support for higher-resolution ultrawide displays. There are performance improvements across several parts of macOS as well. macOS 27 brings several new Siri AI features

One of the biggest additions in macOS 27 is Siri AI, which Apple is bringing to the Mac with conversational responses and personal context. Siri will also be able to complete more complex actions across supported apps. Apple is introducing a dedicated Siri app where users can access their previous conversations, while Spotlight will also offer Siri AI as a search option.

Visual Intelligence is another part of the update. Users can take a screenshot of something on their screen and ask Siri questions about it. Siri can also help generate text and provide writing feedback while working with content in supported apps.

Safari is getting some useful changes too. It can automatically organise tabs by topic and monitor webpages for changes. The Passwords app can identify weak or compromised passwords and update supported credentials on the user’s behalf.

Apple is also expanding parental controls with website permission requests, updated Screen Time controls and scheduling options. Communication Safety will now offer protection against graphic images and videos.

macOS 27 also gets Liquid Glass and display improvements

Apple is making changes to Liquid Glass in macOS 27, including improvements aimed at readability and customisation. The company is also promising performance improvements in several everyday tasks. AirDrop, network file browsing, Safari loading and Mail search are all set to receive performance improvements with the new update.

The update also brings support for higher-resolution ultrawide displays, including resolutions of up to 5K at 120Hz. This should be particularly useful for users working with large external displays or demanding visual workloads.

Accessibility is getting attention as well. macOS 27 adds richer VoiceOver image descriptions and automatic captions for videos, making the Mac more accessible for users who rely on these features.

The release also lines up with Apple’s upcoming Mac hardware. The new Mac mini lineup and the refreshed M5 Mac Studio will begin shipping to users eight days after macOS 27 is released.
