The mid-range smartphone segment has become quite competitive in 2026. With rising component prices amid the AI push, phone brands are trying to offer a better mix of design, display, performance, cameras, and battery life without moving too far up the price ladder. Redmi has also been a familiar name in this segment with its Note series, and the new Redmi Note 17 Pro tries to continue that approach. Priced at Rs 36,999, the phone comes with a large AMOLED display, a big battery, and a dual-camera setup.

I have been using the Redmi Note 17 Pro as my daily driver for a few weeks now to see how well it handles everyday tasks. From the design and display to the camera and battery life, here is my take on the phone.

Redmi Note 17 Pro: Design

The Redmi Note 17 Pro features a simple design, but it does look different from what we have seen on some of the previous Redmi Note phones. The brand has gone with a square-ish camera island placed towards the top-left corner of the back panel. Inside, a raised pill-shaped section houses the two cameras, while the flash sits separately. The camera design is clean and doesn’t make the back panel look too busy.

I have been using the Purple colour variant. It has a matte finish on the back, which gives it a subtle look. It does not attract fingerprints, which is something I personally appreciate on a phone.

When it comes to durability, the Redmi Note 17 Pro comes with IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings for dust and water resistance. It also comes with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on the front.

There are some trade-offs. At 8.6mm, the Redmi Note 17 Pro is not exactly slim. The phone is also quite large, which makes it feel a little bulky in the hand. This is understandable considering the large battery inside, but it does make one-handed use slightly difficult.

Redmi Note 17 Pro: Display

The Redmi Note 17 Pro comes with a large 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The colours on the display are vibrant without looking too saturated, while the deep blacks add good contrast. The 120Hz refresh rate also makes scrolling through apps and webpages feel smooth. I spent quite some time watching videos on the phone, and the large display makes the overall viewing experience enjoyable.

Redmi claims that the display can reach a peak brightness of 3,500 nits. On our Lux meter at Digit Test Labs, the display measured 2,700 nits, which is an excellent result to boast about. And, what this means in short is that the Redmi Note 17 Pro has a display that is easy to like. It is sharp, bright, and smooth, while the AMOLED panel makes videos and other content look vibrant.

Redmi Note 17 Pro: Performance

The Redmi Note 17 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 chipset, paired with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. The chipset is built on a 4nm process. To test the phone’s performance, I ran a few benchmark tests. The Redmi Note 17 Pro scored 8,79,583 on AnTuTu. In Geekbench 7, it scored 868 points in the single-core test and 2,581 points in the multi-core test.

For comparison, the iQOO Z11, which was launched a few months ago at a similar price, uses the MediaTek Dimensity 7500 Turbo chip. In our testing, the iQOO Z11 scored 11,07,516 on AnTuTu, while its Geekbench single-core and multi-core scores stood at 1,194 and 3,271, respectively. This means the iQOO Z11 has a clear advantage in benchmark performance over the Redmi Note 17 Pro.

But as always, benchmarks are synthetic tests. In everyday use, the Redmi Note 17 Pro feels smooth and responsive. Apps open quickly, scrolling through social media is fluid, and switching between multiple apps does not cause any issues. I did not notice any major lag during regular use. For gaming, the phone can handle casual gaming without any major problems. However, during longer gaming sessions, the phone can start to show its limits.

So, the Redmi Note 17 Pro offers reliable performance for everyday tasks such as browsing, social media, streaming, and multitasking. However, if raw performance is your priority, the benchmark results show that there are phones in a similar price range that offer more power.

Redmi Note 17 Pro: Camera

The Redmi Note 17 Pro comes with a dual-camera setup at the back, which includes a 50-megapixel primary camera with OIS and an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens. For selfies and video calls, there is a 16-megapixel front-facing camera. Notably, there is no dedicated telephoto lens for closer shots.

In daylight, the primary camera can capture good-looking photos. There is a good amount of detail, and colours look vibrant. The camera can sometimes boost colours a little, but in a good way. This makes the photos look more lively and social media-ready.

Portrait shots are decent, with good subject separation in most cases. However, the edge detection is not always accurate, especially around fine details such as hair. At times, the camera can slightly blur or cut into the edges of the subject.

The 8-megapixel ultrawide camera is useful when you want to capture more of the scene. However, there is a noticeable drop in detail compared to the primary camera.

Interestingly, in low light, the primary camera takes good photos when there is enough light around. However, in darker scenes, some details are lost, and noise becomes more visible.

Finally, the 16-megapixel selfie camera takes satisfactory photos in good lighting with enough detail. Skin tones look natural, and the images are good enough for social media and video calls.

Redmi Note 17 Pro: Battery

The Redmi Note 17 Pro packs a large 9,000 battery with 67W fast wired charging support, which is one of the phone’s key highlights. During my testing, the phone managed to deliver good battery life for everyday use.

In our PCMark battery test, the Redmi Note 17 Pro lasted 20 hours and 18 minutes. This is a strong result and shows that the phone can comfortably handle a full day of regular usage. During my testing, I could use the phone for browsing, social media, watching videos, and other everyday tasks without constantly worrying about the battery.

Using the bundled 67W charger, it took around 1 hour and 35 minutes to go from 0 to 100 per cent. The charging time is reasonable considering the large battery.

Redmi Note 17 Pro: Verdict

The Redmi Note 17 Pro is a well-rounded smartphone that gets most of the basics right. It has a clean design, a bright AMOLED display, reliable everyday performance, capable cameras, and excellent battery life. The 9,000mAh battery is one of its biggest strengths.

However, there are a few compromises. The phone feels a little bulky in the hand and lacks a telephoto lens. Also, while the battery is humongous, the 67W charging takes around 1 hour and 35 minutes to fully charge it.

In a nutshell, the Redmi Note 17 Pro is aimed at users who want a phone with long battery life, reliable everyday performance, and a good display. It may not be the most powerful option in the segment, but it offers a balanced experience for regular users.
