VERDICT:

The Vivo Y400 Pro strikes a good balance between style and substance. With its sleek design, vibrant AMOLED display, and reliable battery life, it’s well-suited for everyday users. Performance is smooth for daily tasks and light gaming, though power users may miss 90 FPS support and better low-light camera results. At ₹24,999, it’s a solid all-rounder.

Vivo Y400 Pro Review: Vivo has launched another smartphone in the market, the Vivo Y400 Pro. It is a mid-range smartphone priced at Rs 24,999 and has a sleek design, a large AMOLED display, the Dimensity 7300 SoC, and a 5500mAh battery. It is pretty clear that the brand is pitching the Vivo Y400 Pro to Gen-Z users who want their phones to look good, feel fast, and deliver to their everyday needs.

But is this just another style-first phone with average performance? Or does it truly deliver on all fronts, especially in a competitive space where brands like Motorola and Nothing are already making waves? After spending some time with the Vivo Y400 Pro, here’s a deep dive into everything the smartphone brings to the table.

Vivo Y400 Pro Review: Design

From the looks of it, the Vivo Y400 Pro is a good-looking phone. It has a curved and slim profile with 7.7mm thickness along with an elegant colour. My review unit is in a soft gold, aka the Fest Gold colour variant, which shimmers subtly under direct light. And the phone does feel sleek and premium, like all the other phones with curved panels. Moreover, it’s decently light also, weighing around 182 grams.

Vivo Y400 Pro Review

The phone has matching golden plastic frames along with a plastic back panel. In terms of protection, you get an IP65 rating too, but nothing great on the display. Also, the in-hand feel of the phone is pretty comfortable, thanks to the curved display and curved back panel. Overall, it looks and feels much more premium than its price tag suggests.

Vivo Y400 Pro Review: Display

The Vivo Y400 Pro features a 6.77-inch curved AMOLED panel with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Starting with brightness, we recorded a peak brightness of 2200 nits on auto mode on our tests, which is a number you would expect from an Rs 25,000 phone. You can comfortably use the phone both indoors and outdoors.

Vivo Y400 Pro Review

In terms of colours, the Y400 Pro produces decent colour accuracy with an average deltaE of 1.6 and a maximum deltaE of 3.4 at 100% green. This means most colours appear highly accurate to the human eye, with only slight deviation in extreme tones like bright green.

Calman data

When it comes to daily use, everything from scrolling to switching apps feels smooth and fluid. Furthermore, the touch response is also solid, animations glide effortlessly, and honestly, my favourite bit? That curved screen. I know some people have mixed opinions, but I personally love the immersive, seamless vibe it brings.

Vivo Y400 Pro Review: Performance

For everyday use, the performance of the Y400 Pro has been satisfactory, but heavy usage like gaming? Could have been better. The Vivo Y400 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset, which is paired with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with a slot for microSD, so you either have to work with 128GB (Rs 24,999) or 256GB (Rs 26,999).

Benchmarks

The phone scored just under 7 lakh on AnTuTu, which is not chart-topping but also not a bad number. It performs better than the Moto Edge 60 Fusion on this front, but still lags behind rivals like the Nothing Phone 3a. Geekbench scores were also slightly lower compared to its peers. But in real-life usage, I did not experience any major lag issues.

Vivo Y400 Pro Review

Now, if we talk about gaming on this phone, the Vivo Y400 only supports Smooth + Extreme graphics settings (90 FPS) in BGMI. However, the gameplay was surprisingly stable with 97.3% frame rate consistency in a 30-minute session. During the testing, thermals were also well-managed, and the phone only warmed up to about 33.5°C. But the lack of support for 120 FPS gaming in 2025 does feel a bit limiting, especially with competitors starting to offer it in similar price brackets. But again, if you are a casual gamer, this one works.

Vivo Y400 Pro Review

The software experience is your usual Funtouch OS stuff, a few pre-installed apps here and there (thankfully, most of them can be deleted). Vivo has also thrown in some AI tools like Note Assist, AI Recorder, and Circle to Search.

Vivo Y400 Pro Review: Camera

Vivo is known for prioritising camera features, but does the Vivo Y400 Pro sticks to that formula? It comes with a 50-megapixel Sony IMX882 primary sensor on the rear, paired with a 2-megapixel depth sensor.

In daylight, the 50-megapixel main sensor captures shots with good exposure, but sharpness is not always consistent. Pictures seem slightly cool and they lack the signature Vivo vibrancy we usually expect.

Portraits, however, look natural with decent separation, and even edge detection is decent in our samples. It gets the basics right for casual shooting, but it’s not winning any awards for camera performance in this segment.

Surprisingly, the low-light performance felt better than day-light performance. I am really impressed with its light managment capabilities, though sharpness leaves a room for improvement here as well. There was some noise in night shots, and while it doesn’t ruin the photo, you can tell the software has some tuning to do.

Now on the flip side, if we talk about its 32-megapixel selfie shooter, it captures crisp and detailed selfies with natural skin tones and good dynamic range in indoor lighting for a phone priced at ₹24,999.

The bottom line is – the Vivo Y400 Pro does a decent job with its 50-megapixel main camera in handling exposure and portraits, but, there is a but. It is not the most consistent shooter. Sharpness tends to dip in daylight shots, and colours feel a bit cooler than expected. Interestingly, low-light performance surprised me with solid light control, though detail takes a hit there too. And the 32-megapixel front camera? It redeems the experience with sharp and social-ready selfies. Overall, good enough for casual users, but not Vivo good. And oh also! that ring light on the back,

Vivo Y400 Pro Review: Battery

Battery life on the Vivo Y400 Pro is one strong point. It is packed with a 5500mAh battery that can easily last around two days, and I am not blindly saying that, our testing proves it. In the PC Mark Battery Life test, this phone lasted for 20 hours and 24 minutes, with even 20% juice left. In my usage, I saw about an 8–9% battery drop after half an hour of intensive gaming.

Furthermore, it supports 90-watt fast charging, and in my tests, a full 0–100% charge took just around 50 minutes.

Vivo Y400 Pro Review: Verdict

The Vivo Y400 Pro is clearly made for Gen-Zs, as it looks stylish, feels premium in-hand, and nails the basics. The curved AMOLED display is sharp and smooth, and daily performance is solid for most use cases. That said, this phone is not built for power users or gamers chasing the highest frame rates. The lack of 120 FPS gaming support in 2025 does sting a little.

Moreover, the main camera does an okay job, but sharpness and vibrancy can be inconsistent in daylight. And lastly, I feel the battery life is excellent, and 90-watt fast charging adds to it.

All in all, the Y400 Pro is a well-rounded package for casual users who want good looks, decent cameras, and strong battery life, but if you are after top-tier performance or camera consistency, you might want to look elsewhere.
