In India, Aadhaar is the most crucial identity document required for government benefits to travel documentation. Issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), it’s a 12-digit unique number that serves as proof of identity and address. For newborns and children under five, UIDAI issues a special version called Baal Aadhaar, which includes the child’s name, date of birth, photograph, and gender. It links to one parent’s Aadhaar but skips biometric details like fingerprints or iris scans. If you’re planning to travel abroad or need to link other IDs like a passport, having a Baal Aadhaar for your child is a must. Here’s a quick guide on how to apply online and all other details.

How to apply for Baal Aadhaar online
Parents can start the process online via the UIDAI website by booking an appointment:
Go to My Aadhaar → Book an Appointment.
Select your city, enter your mobile number, and verify using OTP.
Choose a date and time to visit the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra or enrolment centre.
On the appointment day, the parent whose Aadhaar will be linked must provide biometric verification and Aadhaar details. Submit your child’s documents along with the enrolment form. Once processed, the Baal Aadhaar will be mailed to your address. You can also download it online through UIDAI’s portal.
Fill out the application form and submit the required documents.
The parent must provide biometric and Aadhaar verification for linkage.
You’ll receive an acknowledgement slip with an enrolment ID. Keep this to check the status later. The physical Baal Aadhaar card usually arrives within 60 to 90 days.
