JioPhone retailer brochure reveals 2MP rear and VGA front cameras, 4GB storage expandable upto 128GB
HIGHLIGHTS

The brochure obtained by Digit also reveals that each retailer will only be able to purchase 40 pre-booking vouchers from Reliance Jio till August 24, as part of the the first lot of JioPhone pre-booking voucher distribution by the company.

The JioPhone announced by Reliance Jio is just two days shy of opening up its pre-bookings for the public, and a retailer brochure distributed by the company, ahead of the start of the pre-booking period, was shared with us by a company official last night.

The brochure reveals some previously unknown features and specifications of the JioPhone. As per the leaked document, the JioPhone will house 4GB of internal storage, expandable upto 128GB via a micro-SD card. In the camera department, the JioPhone houses a 2MP rear camera and another VGA front camera, which will allow its users to make and receive video calls. The Jio TV app will give users access to over 400 plus live television channels in 15 plus languages. Jio Music will give JioPhone users the ability to browse through a library of 1Cr songs in 20 plus languages. Similarly, the Jio Cinema app will open up access to 6000 plus movie titles and 60,000 plus music videos in 10 different languages. All this, including unlimited calls, data and text messages, will be available to users at a subscription price of Rs 153 per month.

The JioPhone will also give users the ability to use the Google Maps app for navigation and a picture in the leaked retailer brochure confirms the same. Along with Maps, the JioPhone will also house YouTube, Facebook, Chrome and Firefox apps. The default web browser on the JioPhone can be accessed by pressing the ‘0’ key. The device will also allow users to download music and access educational, matrimonial and astrological materials.

Further, the JioPhone will support 22 Indian languages and users will be able to customise their handsets with their preferred language. The languages supported by the JioPhone include – Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Santhali, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.

The Jio Assistant will help answer voice based queries and perform in-app actions. Users will be able to open websites, type messages, play songs on JioMusic, search for movies on JioCinema and more through simple voice commands. Of course, we will only be able to tell how well the feature works once we have the device with us.

While we now know more about the JioPhone than we did before, some details revealed by the retailer brochure may be a cause for worry as far as the availability of the device is concerned. The brochure says “Each retailer can purchase upto 40 pre-booking vouchers in the 1st lot.” This, only if vouchers last till August 24. This means that the handset will be available in extremely limited quantities and may again cause queues outside retail stores, like it did when Jio rolled out its telecom services last year. Retailers have not been intimated the next date for the distribution of the second lot of pre-booking vouchers for the JioPhone. Also, not all retailers will be eligible to buy pre-booking vouchers for the JioPhone and the company will communicate the pre-booking eligibility to retailers via SMS.
