Airtel offers 30GB free data for existing users upgrading to 4G smartphones
HIGHLIGHTS

The telco is offering 30GB data for one month to customers who upgrade to a 4G smartphone. The offer is available for both prepaid and postpaid users.

Telecom companies are now heating up the competition by releasing new plans and launching new offers nearly every other day and Airtel has now announced a new offer for its existing customers. The telco is offering 30GB free data to its users who are still using a 2G/3G device and are willing to upgrade to a 4G smartphone. They will get to avail 1GB data per day for 30 days, which will be applicable over and above any existing plan they are currently on. The same will be applicable for Airtel postpaid customers, who can also avail 30GB free data, with rollover, in their first bill cycle, over their existing plan. Airtel says that the new offer is complementary to Airtel’s ‘Mera Pehla Smartphone’ initiative. Airtel customers can call 51111 for checking if they are eligible for the offer and avail the free data benefits. The company says that the 30GB free data will be credited to the user’s account within 24 hours and one can learn more about the offer here.

Vani Venkatesh, CMO of Bharti Airtel says, “While 4G smartphones are fast becoming the norm, for millions of customers with feature phones/3G devices the upgrade to a 4G smartphone is a big decision and a long-term investment. This is one of the largest customer rewarding programs & with this initiative, our customers shall get an opportunity to experience the online world at 4G speeds and fully unlock the potential of their smartphones. We believe this will help millions of our customers to fulfil their aspiration of owning a 4G smartphone by making the transition more rewarding.”

Airtel has ramped up its efforts to be ahead of the competition. It recently announced a new prepaid plan priced at Rs 249 and also refreshed its existing Rs 349 plan with more data benefits. Under the newly launched Rs 249 prepaid recharge, their users will get unlimited local and STD calls on roaming, 2GB of 4G data and 100 SMS per day for 28 days. The revamped Rs 349 recharge now offers unlimited local, STD and roaming calls, along with 3GB 4G data and 100 SMS per day. The prepaid pack earlier offered the same benefits, but with 2GB of data per day. It should be noted that the unlimited calling is not truly unlimited as it’s capped at 300 minutes per day and 1,000 minutes a week. After exhausting the free voice minutes, users will be charged 30 paisa per minute.

This new recharge and the refreshed plan which offers more data by Airtel came soon after the telco announced its Rs 499 prepaid plan. The pack offers more data for daily usage and comes with a longer validity period. It comes with ‘unlimited’ free local and STD calls with free roaming, which is capped at 300 minutes per day and 1,000 minutes in a week after which users will be charged at 30 paise per minute. It also comes with 2GB of 4G data per day with 100 SMS and a validity of 82 days.

The above-mentioned recharge by Airtel rivals Reliance Jio’s Rs 251 Cricket Pack. Both the telcos have announced their respective offers for the IPL 2018 to attract and retain more users. Jio’s Rs 251 Cricket Pack offers 102 GB 4G data with unlimited calling and access to Jio’s suite of apps for 51 days. Alongside the recharge, Jio also announced a "Cricket Play Along Festival". It can be accessed via the MyJio app and participants can win a cash prize, a "premium" house in Mumbai, 25 cars, and more.
