Xiaomi brings Dark Mode for its phones with latest MIUI 10 Global Beta ROM update
The latest MIUI 10 build with version number v9.2.14 is expected to be rolled out for all eligible devices on beta from February 15.
Highlights:
- Latest MIUI 10 Global Beta ROM triggers Dark Mode when dark theme is enabled on Google Messages app.
- The Dark Mode is reportedly triggered when dark theme is enabled on Google Messages app.
- Implementation of the dark mode on MIUI 10 seems to be almost system-wide.
Xiaomi’s MIUI can be a bit confusing when it comes to keeping track of the new features being introduced. This is because MIUI builds can be based on Android Nougat, Oreo or Pie, based on the device it is being made available for. However, regardless of the underlying Android OS, Xiaomi tends to roll out new features for its phones with new versions of MIUI. FoneArena reports that with the latest MIUI 10 Global Beta ROM, Xiaomi smartphone users will finally get to use a system-wide dark theme. However, this new dark mode is said to not be an innate MIUI update since it is reportedly triggered when one enables dark mode on the Google Messages app. The implementation of the second-party triggered dark mode seems to be extensive but still is said to not be completely system-wide.
As per the report, the new MIUI 10 build with version number v9.2.14 is expected to start seeding to beta users from February 15. The new feature will paint multiple system-level apps like Phone, Contacts, Messaging, Gallery, Calculator, Notes, Screen Recorder, and Updater with a dark shade of black. If the screenshots posted along with the report are to be believed, Xiaomi phones with AMOLED displays avail maximum benefits from the new dark mode as it helps save battery consumption and is also easy on the eyes. The dark mode is said to also be applied for volume sliders, Notification shade and the Recents menu and in some Settings sections like Dual Apps, Second Space, App Lock, Permissions, Mi Account, Manage Apps, Data Usage, Enterprise Mode, Quick Ball, and Sim Card settings.
The official announcement of the new MIUI 10 is already done through a Mi Forum post, however, there’s no changelog to confirm the new dark mode. Speaking of MIUI 10, the newer versions will not be supported on some older Xiaomi phones like the Mi 4, Mi 5 and the Redmi Note 3 Pro, which is the Redmi Note 3 in India, since the phone maker has ceased development for them.
Speaking of MIUI 10, the company recently added a new option with the MIUI 10.2.1 update, which enables usage of the power button for calling up the Google Assistant. This new option enables one to call up the smart assistant while using navigation gestures by pressing and holding down the power button for 0.5 seconds. However, the option is disabled by default and one will need to enable it from the “Button and gesture shortcuts” setting menu on their phone.
