If you are one rocking a Huawei P30 Pro, then there is some good news for you. The smartphone is receiving an update  (EMUI 9.1.0.178) which brings with it some improvements and some fixes. So let's quickly run through everything the update brings with it. Firstly, the update adds DC dimming mode. This helps prevent screen flickering and also helps reduce eye strain. For those unaware, DC dimming dims the display regulating voltage, and not by pulse-width modulation. Users can go to Settings > Display > Eye comfort to enable Flicker reduction after the update. There is also a fix for the issue where the display colours are abnormal in certain scenarios.

The update also adds Huawei’s ultra-low latency Bluetooth technology. This allows for high-quality sound and no-lag audio and video syncing. The update also improves photo quality. Users can also add a second face to unlock the smartphone. There are also fixes for the abnormal display of videos recorded by the front camera.

The fingerprint authentication has been optimized and users can re-enrol their fingerprints for improved user experience. Users of the P30 Pro can finally have messages and notifications displayed on a locked screen with live wallpaper. The update also fixes the issue where the screen does not turn off automatically in certain scenarios. It also optimizes system stability, for smoother overall performance.

The update is rolling out and if you don't receive the OTA, fret not. You should see it in the coming days.

In our review of the Huawei P30 Pro, we said, “The Huawei P30 Pro definitely sets a new benchmark for smartphone photography, whether it's in terms of low light capabilities or in terms of how much zoom is packed into a smartphone camera. For the rest, you get a solid day and a half of battery life on heavy use, with a 70 minute charge time from 0 to 100”. With the recent ban on Huawei devices in the US, the future of the company’s smartphone business seems rocky. You can read more about the ban here.
