Huawei says that the EMUI 9.0 is basically ‘Made in India’ as the company's India R&D centre has played a key role in building a locally-tailored experience.

Huawei Consumer Business Group has announced its Android 9.0 Pie based EMUI 9.0 in India. The company revealed that the upcoming EMUI 9.0 update will soon roll out for various Huawei devices and it features the next iteration of the company's GPU Turbo Tech, along with Digital Wellbeing features. The upcoming update also features key contributions from the Huawei India R&D team – allowing for several localised capabilities like support for 28 languages, a new calendar designed for Indian users and a deeper integration with the Paytm app. Huawei says that the OS is developed to “Enable a Quality Life, and comes with a wealth of improvements both in the interface as well as under the hood.”

The company first unveiled the platform at the IFA 2018 event in Berlin. The EMUI 9.0 is currently in beta and some of the additional features will be rolled out with the launch of Huawei Mate 20 Series. Huawei claims that EMUI 9.0 performs 12.9 percent faster than its predecessors, and supports faster app launch speeds, for example, the platform is said to launch Instagram 12 percent faster and Spotify 11 percent faster over EMUI 8.0.

“The EMUI 9.0 has been developed from a commitment of creating an enjoyable, consistent and simple experience. The enhanced user experience and high-speed performance of EMUI 9.0 come together and enable an unmatched operating system for Huawei phones that is intuitive and simple. At Huawei, we see tremendous potential in the India market and are focused on fostering innovation here by bringing cutting-edge technologies to the country. The India R&D team is doing some commendable work not just for this market, but also across our global markets to build the best user experience,” Brody Ji, Senior Product Director, Huawei Consumer Business Group, said in a statement.

EMUI 9.0 features

Huawei claims that in EMUI 9.0, the essential visual elements are moved to reduce complexity. A handful of buttons have also been moved to the lower half of the screen, which is said to enable users to easily access them during one-handed operations. Huawei is also set to introduce GPU Turbo 2.0 in EMUI 9.0 – the second generation of Huawei’s GPU acceleration technology. The Chinese conglomerate claims that the GPU Turbo 2.0 can enhance touch controls in games and works in concert with the App Assistant feature to deliver a “smooth, premium mobile gaming experience.”

EMUI 9.0 is said to come with an all-new gesture-based navigation system. With the new navigation system, users will be able to perform all the Navigation Bar actions, with either a tap or a flick. Huawei’s EMUI 9.0 is also reported to include Digital Wellbeing features that can help users better track and manage the time spent on their smartphone. This is said to help reduce screen time for children and give parents an option of setting usage limits for specific applications.
