Wear OS by Google gets swipeable ‘Tiles,’ roll out next month
HIGHLIGHTS

Google announces swipeable widgets called ‘Tiles’ in Wear OS.

These new Tiles are: Goals, Next event, Forecast, Heart rate, Headlines and Timer.

Tiles will start rolling out next month.

Google has announced that it is debuting Tiles that will give users more swipeable access to get things done quickly right from the wrist. Tiles build on the already available swipeable actions and these are basically widgets that are aimed to provide quick information about the upcoming events to users. Google has launched six new Tiles which can be accessed by just swiping left on the homescreen of a smartwatch.

“Whether you’re at home or on the go, your time is valuable. Five years ago, we built Wear OS by Google to help you get information and get things done quickly, at a glance. Over the past few months, we’ve introduced a new design that provides swipeable access to health coaching from Google Fit and proactive help from the Google Assistant. Now, we’re debuting new Tiles that give you more swipeable access to the things you need to know and get done right from your wrist,” the company said in a blogpost.

As mentioned Google has launched six Tiles: Goals, Next event, Forecast (weather), Heart rate, Headlines and Timer. With a swipe left, users can check their progress towards their fitness goals or start a workout. The tiles will also provide reminders, keep the users updated with forecast so that they can plan their daily trips, check heart rate and follow the latest news headlines.

These ‘Tiles’ are customisable so if you have a habit of checking news, you can place the Headlines Tile first. “To arrange the Tiles in the order you wish to see them, touch and hold any Tile on your smartwatch, or touch and drag one in your Wear OS by Google app. You’ll be able to stay connected to what’s important to you, and still keep tabs on other information and actions,” Google added.

The company says that it will add more Tiles over time. These new Tiles will be rolling out to the Wear OS-powered smartwatch over the next month. Google also notes that certain features may vary by phone OS, watch or country.
