Mitri, the robot, will interact with travellers and present them with menu options outside of TFS’s Dilli Streat outlet at Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi.
Remember the RADA robot that was deployed in Vistara’s airport lounge at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, last year? Well, the travel assistant robot from Vistara now has company as the Delhi International Airport gets its second robot in the form of Mitri. The robot is the first to assist travellers in the F&B space at the airport. Introduced by Travel Food Services (TFS), a known F&B operator in the travel retail segment, the robot is called Mitri and has been deployed outside of TFS’s Dilli Streat outlet at Indira Gandhi International Airport. What it does is assist travellers with menu options from the Dilli Streat outlet. As seen in pictures, the robot sports a tablet for a chest and is also capable of shaking hands to greet customers.
Commenting on the development, Gaurav Dewan, COO and Business Head, Travel Food Services said, “We are always on the lookout for latest innovative technologies that can enhance the experience and satisfaction of our customers. We are extremely excited to present Mitri at our Dilli Streat outlet at the Delhi Airport. With Mitri being such an innovative and futuristic concept, and given her success, we are hopeful to bringing her to more outlets across India.”

The robot introduced by TFS looks much more refined than Vistara’s RADA robot, but it’s important to know that the latter was a passion project for Ravinder Pal Singh, Vistara’s Chief Information and Innovation officer, and was created in-house with the help of staff and students.
Looks like robots are making for popular attractions at Delhi’s Terminal 3. For now, their activities are very limited, but looking at the trend, we wouldn’t be surprised to find robotic ticketing assistants and other more powerful customer service bots at airports in India in the near future.
