Jeff Bezos wants to move industrial production to space

He wants Earth to be a natural reserve or park

He wants to cut costs in space travel, making it easier for other companies to make the jump

It has been said that we humans are polluting the Earth at such an alarming rate that we won’t have much of a planet in the next few decades. From climate change to mass plastic pollution, we’ve essentially turned the Earth into a prototype version of the planet we see in the Pixar animated film, Wall-E. But there is one person who is bucking the trend and is looking at the stars for inspiration. Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon, has outright said that we need to start building our future industries in space and leave Earth alone. In fact, his space company, Blue Origin plans to launch a lunar lander called Blue Moon.

Bezos is looking at saving the environment, “turning Earth into a national park”. It sounds like a novel idea and in a few decades, we may actually see his plan come to fruition. The guy has the money, that’s for sure. He continues by saying ,” I believe that, one day, Earth will be zoned residential and light industry. We’ll move all heavy industry into space. That’s the only way, really, to save this planet”. His first priority is to reduce the cost of actually going to space, which as of now, is still a major issue that even Elon Musk’s Space X seems to be struggling with. The true goal of any space company is “real operational usability” which means that the rockets sent to space should return to Earth, thus reducing costs, substantially.

Bezos goes on to say, “You want a dynamic civilization that continues to use more and more energy and more and more resources and build amazing things,” he said. “And to do that, you have to move out into the solar system.”. And he is right. As humans, our drive for exploration and colonization is second to none and in the history of humanity, progress has only been achieved by pushing forward, and clearly Jeff Bezos plans to do just that.
