Microsoft CEO confirms rumours about Project Helix, the next-gen Xbox console: What we know

Rumours about the next-gen Xbox console have been surfacing on the internet for quite some time now. Since last year, we’ve heard a lot of new details about it, where it was being suggested that it could be more of a ‘PC-console’ hybrid. Though all that was overshadowed by the recent leadership changes that the company went through. Well, we’re finally back, talking about the console now, as the new CEO, Asha Sharma, has officially confirmed the existence of the console. Without wasting much time, let’s take a look at what she said.

Microsoft’s new CEO confirms the next-gen Xbox console

In a tweet over on X (formerly Twitter), Asha Sharma posted about the existence of the next-gen Xbox from her own handle. She confirmed that the team was chatting about the release of the console and even revealed the internal codename of the console, which is ‘Project Helix’. Not only that, but she also confirmed rumours that were suggesting the next-gen Xbox would be a PC console hybrid. 

In the tweet, she said, “Great start to the morning with Team Xbox, where we talked about our commitment to the return of Xbox including Project Helix, the code name for our next generation console. Project Helix will lead in performance and play your Xbox and PC games. Looking forward to chatting about this more with partners and studios at my first GDC next week!”

Next-gen Xbox release date

So far from the tweet, we’ve not been able to find the details regarding the release date for the next-gen console. If we talk about the rumours we’ve heard so far, then the release for the console is likely being planned in either 2027 or 2028. Given this, it’ll be interesting to see whether or not PlayStation plans on releasing its next-gen console or not.

In the tweet, Asha did suggest that she is looking forward to chatting more about the console with ‘partners and studios’ at GDC (Game Developers Conference), which is happening next week. Maybe we could get some more news about the console once that happens.
