Sonos 27 brings ChatGPT integration and new AI features, Sonos Play India launch confirmed

Sonos has announced Sonos 27, a major update to its audio software platform that introduces new AI-powered controls, smarter ways to connect devices, and a redesigned app. The company has also unveiled two new flagship products globally, the Sonos Beam Ultra soundbar and Sonos Ace Ultra headphones. While their India availability will be announced later, Sonos has confirmed that the new Sonos Play portable speaker will go on sale in India from September 8.
SurveySonos 27 brings AI assistants and smarter audio controls
The Sonos 27 brings an expanded AI approach. The platform allows users to control their Sonos system using different AI assistants and agents. Sonos is introducing its own voice assistant for music and mood-based recommendations, along with Sonos MCP, which can connect external AI assistants to the audio system.
The company has also confirmed support for OpenAI’s ChatGPT, allowing users to control music playback and speakers without leaving their ongoing ChatGPT conversations. Sonos also previewed Custom Agents, a future feature that will let users create personalised AI agents with different models, personalities and voices.

Sonos 27 also brings Sonos Fabric, a technology designed to help devices recognise and adapt to one another. New features include headphone linking, which allows the Sonos Ace Ultra to connect more closely with the wider Sonos system, and positioning technology that can identify a speaker’s location and automatically adjust its role. Compatible portable speakers can also be used as rear surround speakers.
Sonos Play India availability confirmed
The Sonos Play portable speaker will become available in India on September 8. It offers stereo sound, Wi-Fi connectivity and the ability to group with other Sonos speakers. The device also supports Bluetooth-based grouping with up to three additional compatible speakers when users are away from home.
Sonos Play offers up to 24 hours of battery life and comes with an IP67-rated design for protection against water and dust. It also features a built-in power bank for charging a phone and supports Automatic Trueplay tuning.
Meanwhile, the newly announced Beam Ultra offers 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos sound, while the Ace Ultra headphones are designed for deeper integration with the Sonos ecosystem. Sonos says more details regarding their availability in India will be shared later.
