Samsung has launched the Odyssey G50SF, a 27-inch OLED gaming monitor, globally, targeting competitive gamers. The monitor offers a QHD (2,560 × 1,440) resolution, a 180Hz refresh rate via DisplayPort, and an ultra-fast 0.03ms grey-to-grey (GTG) response time. The G50SF is a flat-screen monitor with a 16:9 aspect ratio, providing a wide 178° viewing angle and a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. Samsung also includes burn-in protection and temperature management, addressing typical OLED longevity concerns. Besides features for visual fidelity and high-speed performance, Samsung pays attention to comfort through Flicker-Free operation and eye-care technologies.

Price and availability

The Odyssey G50SF is priced at $570 (about Rs 50,000) in New Zealand. It is Samsung’s most affordable OLED monitor till now, priced below G9, G8 and G6 monitors. The G6 monitor with model number G60SF is priced at $1,799 in New Zealand.

G50SF is available in other markets like China, Taiwan, and Indonesia. Samsung has not confirmed a full global rollout, but you can expect wider availability later in the year.

Specifications and features

The Samsung Odyssey G50SF features a 27-inch OLED screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio, 178° horizontal and vertical field of view and a QHD resolution of 2,560 × 1,440 pixels. It offers 99% DCI-P3 coverage, which should allow for vibrant and precise colours. Brightness levels are rated at 200 cd/m² typical and 190 cd/m² minimum. You also get a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 and HDR10 support for enhanced dynamic range and more striking visuals.

Performance-focused gamers benefit from the 180Hz refresh rate over DisplayPort and 144Hz via HDMI (supports both FreeSync and G-Sync compatibility), which allows smoother motion and reduces blur during fast-paced action. This is paired with a 0.03ms grey-to-grey response time, which should reduce ghosting and input lag in FPS games.

Eye-care features like Eye Saver Mode, Flicker-Free technology, and Glare-Free screen reduce eye strain during long sessions, improving comfort and reducing fatigue. Burn-in protection is explicitly included under the warranty for normal usage

Its stand allows tilt adjustments from -2° to 15° and supports VESA 100×100 mounting for flexible positioning.

Among other things, the IO options include a DisplayPort 1.2, an HDMI 2.0 port, and a headphone jack. It doesn’t have a USB-C port or a speaker.
