iOS users may soon get to try Google’s AI-based Assistant on their devices soon. According to the report by Android Police, Google is planning to launch its assistant as a standalone app for iOS. Details about the app are not yet known, but it may be announced during the company’s upcoming I/O event. The report also notes that the app may combine the chat style functionality of the Assistant in Google Allo, with the voice controlled version used on Android. The Assistant for iOS is expected to be available only in the US at launch.
Google Assistant was launched alongside the company’s new smartphones, the Pixel and the Pixel XL. The AI-based assistant was later made available on other devices running Android Nougat and Marshmallow. The availability of the app in iOS means that iPhone and iPad users would have the option of choosing either Siri or Google Assistant.
Google Assistant isn’t the only AI-based device to be launched. Samsung and HTC also have their own assistants in the form of Bixby and HTC Sense Companion respectively. Bixby is currently only available on the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, and it even has its own dedicated physical button on the phone. The HTC Sense Companion is available on HTC U Ultra and the HTC U Play smartphones. The brand new HTC U11 flagship smartphone comes with Google Assistant, HTC Sense Companion and Amazon’s Alexa.
