X down: Thousands report issues as Elon Musk’s social media platform suffers major outage
X down: Many people around the world started reporting issues while accessing the social media platform X on Monday evening. The outage monitoring website Downdetector showed a huge spike as the reports surged quickly. According to the outage monitoring platform, the users in the US and India faced issues with the app, site, and feed. It became impossible for them to update their status or refresh the timeline. People typically visit X to verify and report any issues with online services, but in this case people were unable to do so because the platform itself was having issues. Here’s everything we know about the X outage so far.
SurveyX down: US reports
According to Downdetector data, reports of problems with X in the United States surged dramatically during the evening hours. At around 7:28 PM, the outage tracker showed more than 35,600 user reports, compared to a normal baseline of just 15 complaints.
Among the reported issues, 45 per cent of users said they were facing problems with the app. Another 30 per cent reported issues with the feed and timeline, while 15 per cent complained that the website was not functioning properly.
X outage: India reports
The outage was not limited to the US as the users in India also reported problems accessing the platform. Downdetector recorded more than 1,400 complaints at around 7:44 PM.
In India, 39 per cent of users reported issues with the app, while 34 per cent said their feed or timeline was not loading correctly. Another 15 percent experienced problems with the website.
Social media reactions
Whenever there is an outage, the users quickly turn to X and report the service and share their frustration. However, as the platform itself was the victim, currently the users had nowhere to go. While the microblogging platform was not working for many, some users were still able to access the platform. Describing the situation, one user posted, ‘X is down!!’ Getting 503,’ while another wrote, ‘X IS TEMPORARILY DOWN.’ Many also joked about the situation, as one user said that ‘I spent 10 minutes troubleshooting before realising X was just down.’
