Confirmed the incident to TechCrunch, a Tata Electronics spokesperson said that the company had found a cybersecurity issue on some of its systems “a few weeks ago” and had immediately started its response process. The company also said the incident had “no impact on our operations across businesses, which remain unaffected.”

However, Tata Electronics did not reveal what kind of data was accessed. It also did not reveal how many people or companies were affected. It also did not confirm whether customer data, including information linked to Apple or Tesla, was part of the leak.

Reuters reported that Tata Electronics had informed some employees at its iPhone assembly operations about the breach last week. The report also said Apple was looking into the matter. A ransom demand had reportedly been made to Tata Electronics.

The breach comes at a time when Tata Group is playing a bigger role in global technology supply chains. Tata entered iPhone manufacturing in 2023 after buying the India operations of Wistron, a Taiwanese contract manufacturer and Apple supplier. Tata Electronics later bought a 60 per cent stake in Pegatron’s India unit, another major Apple manufacturing partner. The company also signed a semiconductor supply deal with Tesla in 2024.
