Xiaomi, Meitu partner to launch new CC smartphone Series in China.

This will be the third brand under Xiaomi Corporation.

Company co-founder Lei Jun says the CC phones will be targeted at youth around the world.

Xiaomi and fellow Chinese tech company Meitu have partnered to launch the new ‘CC’ smartphone series in China. Xiaomi Co-founder Lei Jun and Xiaomi China made the official announcement on their Weibo accounts today. It was reported that the company would launch two phones with Mi CC9e and Mi CC9 Meitu monikers as a part of the announcement, however, it did not reveal any device. Apparently, the handsets will debut in the coming weeks.

With its debut, CC now becomes the third brand under Xiaomi Corporation, with the other two being Mi and Redmi. In a separate post, Jun also explained the reason behind naming the series ‘CC’ and touched upon why the phones will be called the CC9. The executive says that  the phones belonging to this series will be targeted at the young people around the world who “want to define themselves”.

He said that ‘CC’ means Colorful & Creative, and the phones will follow the popular colour trends of the year. Jun emphasised that the latest fashion is defined by art students, and for that the company has a group of people called Chic & Cool 90 who design the phones. It is the youngest product team inside Xiaomi. Further, the number ‘9’ in the phones’ name signifies the company’s ninth anniversary. This is not the first time that Xiaomi has celebrated its birthday with a phone launch. Last year, Xiaomi launched the Mi 8 to mark its eighth anniversary.

Jun also noted that irrespective of the fact that a phone is selfie camera-centric or rear camera centric, the devices in the CC series will have a new concept from “Xiaomi X Meitu AI Aesthetics Lab”, that will combine advanced camera hardware and beauty technology to deliver “the best solution”. This is in line with reports which claimed that the phone with codename “Little Fairy” is customised to target female users in the country.

The “Little Fairy” codename is being associated with the CC9 smartphone which features a motorised flip camera that looks like the one we've recently seen on the Asus 6z. Reportedly, the camera module will pack a 48MP main sensor in addition to an ultrawide and a telephoto unit. Rumours are rife that this phone will pack the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 chipset. The image of the phone shows a white colour finish with pink accents.

Unlike the CC9, the CC9e has already been spotted on TENAA website. The images on the certification platform shows a phone with a waterdrop notch and a triple camera system on the back. The phone is expected to sport a 6.39-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel, and an in-display fingerprint sensor. On the front, the phone could sport a 32MP sensor, while the rear camera setup is expected to feature a 48MP main shooter alongside wide and telephoto sensors. Under the hood, the CC9e might feature the Snapdragon 712 chip.
