Google AI Plus now offers 400GB storage at the same price: Here is how it works

Google has just announced a new update to its cheapest Gemini plan, the AI Plus subscription. In markets like the US, the monthly price of the subscription is dropping from $7.99 to $4.99, and the big surprise comes in the form of storage, as the included 200GB storage is now being doubled to 400GB.

But if you’re in India, though, only half of that is good news for you. Google AI Plus in India is currently priced at Rs 399 per month, which works out to roughly $4.44; which brings it even below the new US price point. So unlike users in the US who are seeing a cut in their price, Indian subscribers won’t be seeing any price change on their end.

What do Indian users get?

Google AI Plus subscription

While the pricing remains for Indian users, what they do get, however, is the storage upgrade. Google AI Plus now has 400GB of storage, which is double the previous 200GB capacity. It can be accessed across all of your Google apps, including Gmail, Drive, and Google Photos.

Along with that, all the other core benefits of the plan remain the same. Subscribers get double the usage limits in the Gemini app compared to the free version, a 128,000-token context window, and access to features like Daily Brief, Omni Flash video generation, and scheduled interactions.

AI Plus members also get expanded limits in NotebookLM, Proofread and AI Inbox in Gmail, and additional access in Google Flow, AI Studio, and Antigravity. The subscription also supports account sharing, allowing users to use AI benefits with up to five family members.

Why is Google doing this?

This change in pricing arrives alongside a wider restructuring across Google’s membership plans. The move follows a pattern established earlier when Google quietly changed the AI Pro plan with up to 5TB of storage without any price increase. At the same time, they also introduced the Rs 650 2TB tier, which is now officially coming under Google AI Plus as well. Everything remains the same, but with much more storage.

For Indian subscribers, the storage bump is a genuinely welcome upgrade; they will finally get more room for photos, documents, and Drive files without paying more. The price relief, though, is a story for other users around the world. It will be interesting to see if any price changes follow across the coming month.
