Xiaomi launches MIUI 7 Global ROM along with limited edition Mi 4i

MIUI 7 comes with lots of new features such as Child Lock, MUSE, and XXL Text. The developer build (BETA) update will start rolling from August 24.

Xiaomi has launched the global version of MIUI 7 in an event in New Delhi today. MIUI 7 is the upgraded version of their MIUI rom that features on all the Mi devices and the new version is based on Android Lollipop 5.1. 

Among the MIUI features that were unveiled today include 4 new system UI designs: Rose, Pink Blush, Ocean Breeze, and High Life. You can choose any of those as per your preference. Xiaomi further introduced XXL Text that gives you larger sized fonts. It is available for messaging and a lot of other apps as well. Another good addition in MIUI 7 is Child Mode. This mode limits the access of your kids and keeps your important apps like emails and messages away from them.

They have also announced a theme designer called MUSE. It will let users to create their own themes without any need of any complex coding. In the gallery app, they have added a Baby album group that automatically groups all the baby photos available on your phone.

Xiaomi also released an International Wallpaper Market that lets users choose from a range of HD wallpapers along with 10 pre-set wallpapers that are available for daily lock screen rotation. This feature is currently available only in India. They have also integrated the Mi Band with MIUI 7 and whenever the band detects that you are sleeping, the phone will automatically switch to Do Not Disturb (DND) mode.

Xiaomi has claimed that MIUI 7 loads data and app animation in parallel, which leads to 30% faster system response. They also claimed that new MIUI version optimizes battery consumption and improves battery life by 10%, thereby extending use by about 3 hours each day. The app app startup time was also optimised and Xiaomi also accelerated the CPU.  As of now, MIUI 7 global variant developer version (BETA) is supported on Redmi 2, Redmi 1SMi 4iMi 4, Mi 3, Redmi Note 3G and Redmi Note 4G. It will start rolling out from August 24.

In addition to this, Xiaomi announced coloured variants of Mi 4i that will be available from August 25 for Rs. 12,999. These are limited edition variants that have been released by Xiaomi to celebrate the announcement of MIUI 7.

Xiaomi also announced some features which will be available later. There is a new feature called Showtime, which lets users to record 5 second video loops and then share them with others via contact cards. It will be released in the coming months. Other than this, Xiaomi has partnered with Opera Max to provide MIUI Data Saver. As per their claim, it will help users by saving up to 50% data. The feature will roll out in September this year in India, China, Brazil, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia and Philippines.

The announcement of the global ROM of the of the MIUI 7 comes just a week after Xiaomi announced the Chinese version of the MIUI 7.
