Sony Xperia Z5 may have hybrid auto-focus system, suggests teaser
HIGHLIGHTS

Sony's Great Britain arm posted a teaser, which all but confirms the hybrid auto-focus system for its upcoming flagship, Xperia Z5.

The rumoured Sony Xperia Z5 will almost certainly have a hybrid auto-focus system. The Japanese smartphone maker posted a teaser on its Twitter page, boasting a ‘greater auto-focus’ system in its upcoming device, which will be launched at IFA, Berlin, on September 2. While the teaser doesn’t explicitly mention the Xperia Z5, it is a fair assumption at the moment. Also, the phone is expected to be accompanied by a smaller Xperia Z5 Compact, which will have similar hardware, but with smaller screen size.

The teaser was posted by Sony’s Great Britain arm (@sonyxperiagb) and shows the smartphone in question. Going by its size with respect to the hand holding it, it seems to be the Xperia Z5 Compact. The picture is blurred so as to not give out too much information, so we’ll have to wait till IFA, Berlin to know the complete hardware details of the phone. Sony is expected to launch a 5.5 inch Xperia Z5 accompanied by a 4.7 inch Xperia Z5 Compact.

Further, the upcoming flagship device from Sony will hopefully bring the company’s new sensor, the IMX240, which has been utilised in phones like the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the ZTE Nubia Z9 Mini. This, accompanied with the hybrid auto-focus system, should make for a quality shooter that is also really fast.

Going by Sony’s pricing till date though, the phone should cost upwards of Rs. 50,000 and it wouldn’t be surprising if it breaks the 55K barrier as well. Sony’s latest flagship, the Xperia Z3+ smartphone had been priced in India at almost Rs. 56,000 during launch.

The Japanese smartphone maker has been the subject of discussion following lacklustre sales of its Xperia series. While Sony has reiterated that it doesn’t plan to shut down its smartphones business, there have been multiple reports claiming otherwise. In addition, the issues with the Snapdragon 810 SoC on the Xperia Z3+, make the upcoming Xperia Z5 flagship all the more important for the company.
