Samsung Galaxy A8s with Infinity-O display launching in China today: How to watch livestream and what to expect
HIGHLIGHTS

The Samsung Galaxy A8s launch event will commence at 4pm local time (1.30pm Indian time) in China and it will be the first smartphone ever to sport an Infinity-O display.

Samsung is set to launch the Galaxy A8s today, the first smartphone ever to sport an Infinity-O display. The launch event in China will commence at 4pm local time today. Indians who are interested in watching the unveiling of the phone can also tune-in at 1.30pm. Samsung had teased the smartphone at the tail-end of the Galaxy A9 event in China this year, saying that this particular unit would come with “first-time adoption” technology. During its developers conference, Samsung introduced the “Infinity O” display, which is a full-screen panel with a small cutout (punch hole) in the top-left corner to house the front-facing camera. This new display is expected to be seen for the first time on the Galaxy A8s today.

Galaxy A8s launch: Expected price and where to watch the livestream

The South Korean company will livestream the launch event of Galaxy A8s and you can watch the same on Samsung Electronics China and Samsung Galaxy Club website. After taking into account the company’s pricing trend of the A- series of smartphones, it is expected that the Galaxy A8s will be priced around $450-$500 which is approximately Rs 32,000-Rs 35,600.

Galaxy A8s expected specifications and features

The USP of the Galaxy A8s will be its punch-hole camera – a first-of-its-kind technology on a smartphone. The new punch-hole camera display goes around the notch and replaces it with a pin hole. The Samsung Galaxy A8s could feature a 6.3-inch Full HD+ display offering a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels and 19:5:9 aspect ratio. The phone is expected to be wrapped inside a 2.5D curved glass. It could be powered by the Qualcomm Octa-Core Snapdragon 710 SoC paired with Adreno 616 GPU. The phone is expected to have 6GB of RAM and 128GB of local storage, which can be expanded up to 512GB with a micro SD card.

When it comes to the camera, it is assumed that the Galaxy A8s will get the same triple rear camera configuration as the Galaxy A7 (2018), which is an 8MP 120-degree Ultra Wide Lens, a 5MP depth-sensing camera and a third 24MP camera with LED flash. On the front, the device is expected to have a 24MP shooter. The phone is expected to run Android 8.0 (Oreo) out of the box with Samsung’s own skin on top. It may have a 3.5 mm audio jack, NFC and a 3400mAh battery with support for fast charging.

The Samsung Galaxy A8s has already been spotted on US inspection site FCC under the model number SM-G8870 as well as on TENAA. The images on TENAA showed triple camera setup on the back and a centrally aligned fingerprint sensor just above the Samsung branding. This rules out the fact that Samsung will bring an in-display fingerprint sensor on this device.
