MWC 2018: Nokia launches the Nokia 1, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 6 (2018) and the Nokia 8110 4G
Nokia also announced that all its current smartphones (except the Nokia 2) will become a part of the Android One program.
Nokia has launched a total of five new devices at MWC 2018, including one new feature phone. The four new smartphones are the Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 8 Sirocco and Nokia 1. The feature phone is the Nokia 8110 4G.
Nokia 7 Plus
The Nokia 7 Plus sports a 6-inch FHD+ display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC with 4GB RAM. Like all other smartphones launched by Nokia, it is a part of the Android One program, so it will be updated to Android P. The phone is the first smartphone by the company to offer an 18:9 display aspect ratio. At the back of the phone is a dual-rear camera setup with 12MP wide-angle and 13MP telephoto lens with Zeiss optics for both. At the front is a 16MP camera, also with Zeiss lens. The phone will also come with Nokia’s Pro Camera app, and notes that it will be available to all Nokia devices with Zeiss optics. The device offers a 3800mAh battery and the company claims that the phone will offer 2-day battery life. The phone will be available from April, at 399 EUR (approx Rs 31,700).
Nokia 6 (2018)
The company has also launched the global variant of the Nokia 6 (2018). Like the others, it too is a part of the Android One program. The device sports a 5.5-inch Full HD display and features the much-touted ‘Bothie’ feature. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 SoC with 3GB RAM. It also comes with a 3000mAh battery and offers wireless charging. At the back of the phone is a 16MP camera, while at the front is an 8MP unit. The phone will be available from the beginning of April at 279 EUR (approx Rs 22,200).
Nokia 8 Sirocco
The Nokia 8 Sirocco sports a dual-glass design with a stainless steel frame. The phone uses Gorilla Glass 5 on both sides and the company notes that it comes with IP67 certification for water and dust resistance. The phone comes with a dual-camera setup with 12MP wide-angle lens and a 13MP telephoto lens. It features a 5.5-inch QHD POLED display and is equipped with a 3260mAh battery. The phone comes with 6GB RAM, 128GB storage and is a part of the Android One program. It will be available in April at 749 EUR (approx Rs 59,600).
Nokia 1
The Nokia 1 is the company’s take on an Android Oreo (Go Edition). The device features a 4.5-inch FWVGA display and is powered by a Mediatek MT6737M quad-core processor with 1GB RAM. It offers 8GB of inbuilt storage and is equipped with a 2150mAh battery. The phone also comes with removable covers called Xpress-On covers. The phone will be available in the beginning of April at $85 (approx Rs 5,400). This is the second Android Oreo (Go Edition) smartphone to be launched at MWC following the Alcatel 1X.
Nokia 8110 4G
The Nokia 8110 4G is the company’s new feature phone, which is a modern take on the ‘banana phone’ that was used in the first Matrix movie. As the name would suggest, the phone comes with 4G support and users will be able to use it as a Wi-Fi hotspot. The devices also comes with Google Assistant, Google Maps, Google Search. It also comes with Facebook, Twitter and more apps which can be downloaded from its app store, which is powered by KaiOS. The phone will be available in in Black and Banana Yellow colour variants and will be available from May. It is priced at 79 EUR (approx Rs 6,300)
Besides this, the company also announced that it was becoming a part of Google’s Android One program, and as such all of its new smartphones come with Android One. Further, the company said that all its current smartphones (except the Nokia 2) will be a part of the Android One program.
