Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950XL dummy units imported, India launch soon?
HIGHLIGHTS

It looks like Microsoft plans to launch the Lumia 950 and 950XL in India soon. 1000 dummy units split between the two have been imported.

Microsoft may launch its recently-announced flagship smartphones, the Lumia 950 and 950XL, in India soon. According to tracking website Zauba, Microsoft has shipped 500 dummy units of the Lumia 950, and 500 dummy units of the Lumia 950XL, to India. Dummy units are usually ones that are housed in retail stores to let consumers experience the device.

The Microsoft Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950XL are expected to be priced around Rs. 38,000 and Rs. 43,000, respectively. If these become the final prices, the new Lumias will directly compete against the new Android-powered flagship smartphones coming to India, soon. The launch of the Lumia 950 and the 950XL will cash in on the festive season craze of smartphones in India. We have already seen the launch of the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P, along with the launch of the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus in India, in recent weeks.

On October 21, Sony is expected to launch its flagship smartphones lineup, the Xperia Z5 and the Z5 Premium in India. In the past years, extensive grey market imports of smartphones in India occur during this season. This year, companies have taken the onus on themselves, rather than letting grey market imports enjoy the fruits of the massive demand for latest generation phones in India.

The Microsoft Lumia 950XL features a 5.7-inch AMOLED display with 1440x2560px (2K) resolution, employing ClearBlack technology with Iris recognition, that Microsoft has done previously, too. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core SoC powers the device, along with a 3300mAh battery. The Lumia 950, on the other hand, features a similar AMOLED display with 2K resolution, but in a smaller, 5.2-inch footprint. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 SoC, along with a 3000mAh battery, powers it.

Microsoft also announced that they are cooling the SoCs on the two phones with a PC-class liquid cooling technology, which is a first for smartphones. If you are confused about how liquid cooling works on a smartphone, here is how it works.

There is 3GB of RAM on board, along with 32GB of storage which can be expanded up to 200GB, via microSD cards, on both the Lumias. Both smartphones come with USB Type-C ports. Detailed features of the Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950XL are enlisted here.
