In a research note with investment firm Haitong International Securities, analyst Jeff Pu said that the upcoming iPhone 16 series will likely be equipped with A18-branded chips, reports MacRumors.
While the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models are expected to feature an A18 chip (N3E), the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models might be equipped with an A18 Pro chip (N3E).
The N3E is TSMC’s second-generation 3nm chip fabrication process, offering cost savings and improved yield compared to TSMC’s first-generation 3nm process, N3B– used for the A17 Pro chip in the iPhone 15 Pro models.
It’s worth noting that Pu’s speculations about the marketing names are likely based on educated guesses. Thus, it remains uncertain whether Apple will indeed adopt the A18 and A18 Pro branding or stick with the A17 and A18 Pro.
Pu has been a reliable source of information in the past. He accurately disclosed that the iPhone 15 Pro models would feature an increased 8GB of RAM and that the iPhone 15 Pro Max would come with a higher starting price compared to the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Recently, it was reported that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models are expected to be equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X75 modem, supporting 5G Advanced network. On the other hand, the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus might come with the Snapdragon X70 modem used in the iPhone 15 series.
