Google Pixel 12 series codenames leaked ahead of launch
The internal codenames for the Pixel 12 models have been leaked.
All the names are based on primates.
The Pixel 12 series is expected to launch in 2027.
There have been a lot of leaks and rumours about the upcoming Pixel 10 series surfacing online in recent months. Now, even before that lineup hits the shelves, we’re already getting a glimpse into Google’s plans for the Pixel 12 series. A new leak (via 9To5Google) reveals the internal codenames for the Pixel 12 models, even though these phones are expected to launch in 2027.
SurveyIt’s no secret that companies like Google work on their hardware years ahead of release, so early leaks like these aren’t too surprising. Here’s what the leaked codenames suggest:
- Pixel 12: Galago
- Pixel 12 Pro: Sasquatch
- Pixel 12 Pro XL: Silverback
- Pixel 12 Pro Fold: Capuchin
All these names are based on primates, continuing Google’s tradition of using animal themes for its Pixel devices. The Pixel 10 series is said to use horse-inspired names, while the Pixel 11 phones are reportedly codenamed after bears.

The primate theme also appears to reflect the phones’ characteristics. For instance, Silverback will most likely be the biggest and most powerful device in the lineup.
From the looks of it, Google is sticking to its usual formula: a base model, two Pro variants in different sizes, and a foldable option. However, since the Pixel 12 is still two years away, these names and plans could change.

As for now, we don’t have more details of the Pixel 12. Meanwhile, let’s take a look at what to expect from the Pixel 10 phone.
The Pixel 10 is expected to be powered by the Tensor G5 chipset. Rumours suggest that the handset could house a 50MP primary sensor, paired with a 13MP ultrawide sensor and a 10.8MP telephoto lens. For selfies and video calls, it will likely feature a 10.8MP front-facing camera.
