Facebook and Instagram down again: Meta owned social media platforms Facebook and Instagram are facing another massive outage. Thousands of users are facing problems accessing key features including scrolling reels, posting images, watching stories and much more. The disruption started late Monday evening and has affected users in the United States, India and several other regions. Interestingly, this is the second major outage for the platforms in less than two weeks.

As per outage-tracking platform Downdetector, more than 5,000 users in the US have reported issues with Instagram, while Facebook has received over 1,000 complaints. In India, the number of reports is comparatively lower, with over 500 users flagging problems on Instagram and around 100 reporting issues with Facebook.

Most users say they are unable to refresh their Instagram feed, upload posts or Stories, send direct messages or access certain parts of the app. On Facebook, users have reported trouble loading the news feed and using other core features.

Downdetector’s live outage map indicates that the disruption is concentrated in several major US cities, including New York, Chicago, Washington, Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas and San Francisco. While the impact appears to be more limited in India, users have also taken to other social media platforms to report service interruptions.

So far, Meta has not issued an official statement confirming the outage or explaining what caused the disruption. We will update the story when we get any updates from Meta.

What is more interesting is, this is second such outage that affected both Facebook and Instagram in around tweeks. The last outage also led users across multiple countries unable to access the platforms for several hours. But in comparison, this outage seems to be at a lower scale and the situation looks to be slowly coming back to normal.

For us, both Instagram and Facebook are working and the full functionality seems to be gradually restoring.
