Dixon Techologies will be manufacturing smartphones for Gionee in India, from May. According to a report by the Economic Times, Dixon will be manufacturing Gionee’s P series phones from May, and will start manfacturing F series phones by July. Dixon will become the second manufacturer for Gionee in India, after Foxconn.
Gionee India’s Managing Director, Arvind Vohra told Economic Times that the P series smartphones locally manufactured by Dixon will be priced at about Rs. 6,000, while the F series phones will be priced at about Rs. 10,000. He said, “Foxconn will take care of 50-60% of Gionee's local smartphone production needs while Dixon will handle the rest from its Noida factory.” He added that Gionee will ensure that there is no duplication in the handsets manufactured at the Foxconn and Dixon factories in India. Dixon will initially dedicate three production lines at its facility in Noida for Gionee, and may scale it up to six lines in the future, depending on market requirements.
In September last year, Gionee had announced that it was partnering with Foxconn and Dixon Technologies for making phones in India. It was reported that the company plans to invest $50 million in India over a period of three years. A month later, the company launched the Gionee F103, its first phone to be made in India.
