Asus ZenFone 6 launching as Asus 6z today in India: All you need to know

Asus is launching the rebranded ZenFone 6 in India today. The smartphone will be called Asus 6z in India, as its name was changed after Asus lost a trademark case to Telecare Network India. The company is no longer permitted to use the ZenFone branding in India hence the new name.

The Asus 6z succeeds last year’s ZenFone 5z, which competed against the OnePlus 6T when it was launched. This year, the 6z will go up against the likes of the OnePlus 7 Pro and Oppo Reno 10X Zoom. It will be unveiled in India at an event that starts at 12:30pm today. Those interested in watching the event can livestream the same through the video embedded below.

In terms of specs, the Asus 6z brings flagship grade hardware and a unique camera setup to lure buyers. The smartphone features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC, paired with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.1 storage. It features a 6.4-inch IPS LCD display which delivers a 92 percent screen-to-body ratio.

The phone is powered by a massive 5,000mAh battery that come with a Quick-Charge 4.0-certified 18W charger. In comparison, the OnePlus 7 Pro features a 4000mAh battery, while the standard OnePlus 7 ships with 3700mAh battery.

One of the highlights of the phone is its camera. The phone features a flip camera that swivels to double up as a selfie shooter. The camera module flips to become the selfie snapper. The flip module houses a 48MP Sony IMX 586 sensor, along with a 13MP ultra-wide camera with 117-degree field of view. The primary camera is paired with an f/1.79 aperture lens and supports PDAF while the secondary camera has a real-time distortion correction algorithm.

Further, the handset features dual speakers with two smart amplifiers. It runs custom ZenUI 6 interface baked on top of Android 9. It has a fingerprint sensor on the back. The Zenfone 6 will be offered in two colour variants — Twilight Silver and Midnight Black. Additionally, the Zenfone 6 offers a triple-slot for two SIM cards and a memory card.
