Apple considers clamshell-style foldable iPhone to take on Galaxy Z Flip: Report

For a long time now, we’ve been hearing a lot of rumours that Apple is expected to launch a book-style foldable iPhone. While this device has yet to receive an official confirmation, a new report suggests that Apple may already be thinking beyond its first foldable and considering a smaller follow-up model, which will compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip series and Motorola’s Razr lineup.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is exploring a “square, clamshell-style foldable phone.” However, the company is not fully committed to this idea yet. Gurman points out that the device is “far from guaranteed to reach the market” and is currently only “under consideration inside Apple Labs.” This indicates that Apple is still exploring the concept and weighing its options before making any final decisions.

Gurman’s report also states that Apple seems to be feeling optimistic about the success of its first foldable iPhone, which is expected to arrive sometime later this year. With strong expectations around this launch, Apple likelys want to have additional foldable products ready to take advantage of the interest and demand that its first foldable could generate.

If Apple eventually releases a clamshell-style foldable iPhone, it would be stepping into a competitive space already occupied by Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip lineup and Motorola’s Razr foldables.
