Tata will now make Apple iPhones in India as Wistron settles in $125 Million: Know more
The Tata Group successfully completed a deal with Wistron Group.
The company has approved the sale of its Indian production unit to Tata Group.
The news was confirmed by Electronics and Technology Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
Apple is in the news once again. And no this time not for its heating issues, or iPhones. Apple is going to manufacture iPhones in India for the global market now, and this time the news is confirmed. Apple has trusted the Tata Group for this job. The news was confirmed by Electronics and Technology Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar. He announced that the Tata Group successfully completed a deal with Wistron Group for this and within two and a half years, Tata Group will start manufacturing iPhones in India, both for the domestic as well as the global markets.

Now, let’s talk business. Apart from the Tata Group, Taiwan-based Wistron Corp was the second shareholder in this deal. Wistron Corp is a contract manufacturer for Apple. The company has approved the sale of its Indian production unit to Tata Group. The sale of the same cost $125 million. Once everything is finalised, it would mean that the Tata Group will hold a 100% stake in Wistron InfoComm Manufacturing (India) Private Limited (WMMI).
He took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce this, “PM @narendramodi Ji’s visionary PLI scheme has already propelled India into becoming a trusted & major hub for smartphone manufacturing and exports.
Now within just two and a half years, @TataCompanies will start making iPhones from India for domestic and global markets from India.Congratulations to the Tata team for taking over Wistron operations. Thank you @Wistron for your contributions, and great going for Apple in building a global supply chain from India with Indian companies at its helm.”

This change could have come keeping in mind the USA’s estranged relations with China. Apple relies heavily on China for a majority of its iPhone production. Now, with the relations between the two countries not looking good, Apple is looking out for new alternatives.
