Swiggy has decided to deliver essential goods and groceries to your doorsteps in wake of the ongoing nation-wide lockdown that’s in effect till May 3 due to the coronavirus outbreak. The food delivery service has partnered with various consumer goods companies to list their products on its app and is now delivering groceries and other essentials in over 125 cities pan India.

The company has also released a new Swiggy Genie hyperlocal delivery service. Using it one can pick up or drop anything much like what Dunzo offers. However, due to the lockdown in effect, Swiggy is currently only supplying essential goods. To that effect, it has partnered with Hindustan Unilever, P&G, Godrej, Dabur, Marico, Vishal Mega Mart, Adani Wilmar and Cipla, to name a few.

“While the grocery and essentials category has always been a part of our long-term strategy of delivering hyperlocal convenience, we have enabled faster ramp up for the benefit of our consumers. Extending our hyperlocal delivery offering will unlock a new dimension of convenience and safety for our consumers, as well as earnings for our delivery partners, during these extraordinary times,” said Swiggy COO Vivek Sunder.

Swiggy Genie is live in over 15 cities and can be used to deliver necessary products including medicines to consumers for the duration of the lockdown. Recently, Zomato also released an update on its app that will let users shop for groceries and other essential supplies in over 80 cities across India.

How to order groceries and essential goods from Swiggy

Upon launching Swiggy, you will now see a dedicated “Grocery Essentials” tab. Select it and you will be presented by a list of all the shops that are operational in your area at that time. 

Select the store you want to shop from and tap on it. From here the process is very similar to how you place an order on Swiggy. Select the products you want from the menu and add them to the cart. 

Once on the Cart page, you have the option of choosing a no-contact delivery option and tip for the delivery executive.

Check if there is any applicable coupon available, otherwise, just proceed to pay for your order.
