SurveyOpenAI GPT-5.5: Key capabilities
One of the biggest upgrades in GPT-5.5 Instant is accuracy. OpenAI claims the model produces 52.5 per cent fewer hallucinated claims compared to GPT-5.3 Instant on high-stakes prompts covering areas like medicine, law and finance. It also reduces incorrect answers by over 37 per cent.
The model is also said to be better at handling everyday tasks. It can analyse images more effectively, answer STEM-related questions with improved clarity, and decide when to use web search to give more relevant responses. At the same time, answers are now shorter and more to the point, avoiding unnecessary details or clutter.

Another major improvement is personalisation. GPT-5.5 Instant can use context from past chats, uploaded files and even Gmail (if connected) to give more tailored responses. This means users won’t have to repeat information as often. OpenAI has also introduced memory sources, which let users see what past data was used to personalise an answer and manage it easily.
OpenAI GPT-5.5: Availability
GPT-5.5 Instant is rolling out starting today and is available to all ChatGPT users as the new default model. In the API, it is accessible as chat-latest. For paid users, GPT-5.3 Instant will still be available for the next three months before it is retired.
Enhanced personalisation features are currently rolling out to Plus and Pro users on the web, with mobile support expected soon. OpenAI also plans to expand these features to more users, including free-tier accounts, in the coming weeks.
