Govt warns against possible vulnerability on Google Chrome that can get you hacked

As our lives are going more “online”, the threats to security and privacy are also increasing at an alarming rate. Every day we hear of some vulnerability or some bug that allows hackers to enter our systems. The government has issued a similar warning against one such vulnerability, this time on Google Chrome. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (Cert-In) has issued a warning that informs citizens that a possible vulnerability on Google Chrome can allow hackers to get complete control over their systems, hack them, and eventually you might even lose access. Cert-In has also classified the severity of this bug as high.

Can this bug affect you?

According to the notification, this bug has been spotted on the desktop version of Google Chrome. This affects users who are using Chrome versions before 125.0.6422.76/.77 for Windows and Mac and Google Chrome versions before 125.0.6422.76 for Linux.

The notification revealed that hackers can trick users into visiting a specially crafted website. Once the user visits the website, hackers get a chance to hack their systems and make the user lose access.

How to fix this Google Chrome bug?

Firstly, you should check your Google Chrome version number. To check this, go to the Chrome browser > three dots on the top > click on “Help” > click on “About Google Chrome” > Check for the Chrome version.

Now, if your Chrome version is before the ones mentioned above, update it and then click on “Relaunch”.
