The doodle features a rofous hummingbird, veiled chameleon and others.
Google is celebrating the 44th Earth Day with an animated doodle that shows a Rofous hummingbird followed by a moon jellyfish, the dung beetle, a veiled chameleon, a puffer fish and a pair of Japanese macaques wishing everyone a ‘Happy Earth Day 2014’.
SurveyThe Doodle begins with the Rufous hummingbird hovering over flowers and with mouse-over gesture, a text “The Rufous Hummingbird wishes you a happy Earth Day 2014!” shows up. The image changes to a second doodle after you click on it and shows two Japanese macaques shivering in snow. The third doodle shows the moon jellyfish in water and a spinning and bloated puffer fish. The fourth doodle shows a Veiled chameleon camouflaged in the Google logo and the last doodle is of a dung beetle that is trying to roll a ball way bigger than its size. The five doodles don’t appear in the same order for everyone. Google has added a share button that allows users to share the doodle with their friends on Facebook, Twitter and Google .
The Earth Day was first celebrated on April 22, 1970 by Gaylord Nelson, a US Senator from Wisconsin, after he witnessed the 1969 massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California. Nelson started the movement so people think about air and water pollution and force environmental protection onto the national political agenda. Earth Day is now celebrated in over 192 countries globally and is coordinated by Earth Day Network which aims to “inform and energize populations so they will act to secure a healthy future for themselves and their children”.
Google recently celebrated International Women’s Day 2014 with an animated doodle. Along with the an animated Doodle, Google also released a YouTube video of women from around the globe wishing every one a Happy International Women’s Day. The video showcased cartoon characters like Dora the explorer, as well as some prominent women from across the globe like Asha Bhosle and Malala Yousafzai.
