Dyson PencilWash, a 38mm ultra-slim wet and dry cleaner with filter-free design globally launched

Dyson has unveiled the Dyson PencilWash globally as its slimmest and lightest wet and dry cleaner to date. The product is designed for modern homes that need quick wet spill clean-up, stain removal, and low-furniture reach, without the bulk typically associated with floor washers. It is only 3.8mm thin, weighs 2.2 kg and comes in a filter-free design. Dyson is positioning this as a lighter, more manoeuvrable alternative that still promises full wet extraction and freshwater cleaning.

Specifications and features

The PencilWash will lie flat to 170 degrees, and can reach under furniture as low as 15cm. Many upright floor washers struggle in this area due to tank placement and motor housing size.

It packs a 300ml clean water tank and a 360ml dirty water tank, and is rated to cover up to 100m2 in low hydration mode. There is no dustbin onboard. Rather, it sports a high-density microfibre roller with 64,000 filaments per cm2, an 8-point pressurised hydration system for controlled fresh water delivery, and the ability to continuously extract dirty water and debris.

Unlike most wet and dry cleaners that rely on filters to trap debris, PencilWash eliminates the filter entirely. Dyson says this avoids dirt accumulation, bacteria build-up, odour emission, and performance drop over time.

For users, this means fewer components to wash and maintain. It also reduces the risk of sludge formation, a common issue in traditional floor washers.

It should be good for cleaning hard floors like tile and sealed wood. Its lightweight and slim design should improve grip comfort and storage, especially in apartments with limited utility space.

Dyson claims up to 30 minutes of runtime. It would take 3.5 hours of charging time. It also supports a swappable battery pack, which is sold separately.

After PencilVac, now the PencilWash show Dyson’s continued push towards smaller, lighter, and more ergonomic home cleaning devices.
