56% of those aged 18 to 24 have used ChatGPT at least once.

ChatGPT is possibly everyone’s favourite and the most popular AI chatbot out there. It also has its own first movers advantage. But now reports suggest that things aren’t looking that great for it. A new research study conducted by Reuters Institute and Oxford University suggests that ChatGPT usage is significantly low. Let’s find out more about this.

For this survey, Reuters Institute and Oxford University studied over 6,000 individuals across the U.S., U.K., France, Denmark, Japan, and Argentina. And this study gave results that not many were expecting. The survey did acknowledge the fact that OpenAI’s ChatGPT is the most famously used AI tool. But despite that, its daily usage numbers had a different story to tell.

Only 1% of respondents in Japan, 2% in France and the U.K., and 7% in the U.S. reported using ChatGPT daily. Another observation to note is that between 19% and 30% of participants were unaware of any popular generative AI tools.

Another major observation that came out from this research was the fact that there is a huge generational divide in the adoption of generative AI. As is obvious, the younger generation is more likely to adopt it. 56% of those aged 18 to 24 have used ChatGPT at least once, compared to just 16% of those aged 55 and older. Out of this, approx 24% of respondents have used generative AI to gather information, while 28% have employed it to create various types of media, including text, audio, code, images, and video.
