Adobe Photoshop gets new AI editing tools, AI-Assisted Editor and precision controls

Adobe has introduced a new set of Photoshop features, adding more AI-powered editing capabilities along with traditional tools for professional creators. The update brings a new AI-Assisted Editor, currently in beta, which allows users to edit images using natural language prompts. Photoshop is also getting new lighting controls, AI-powered masked edits, visual markup tools and improved text features.

Among the new additions is Light Adjustment Layer, which brings controls for Exposure, Contrast, Highlights, Shadows, Whites and Blacks directly into Photoshop’s layer workflow. The feature works non-destructively, allowing users to make changes without permanently affecting the original image.
The brand is also introducing Instruct Edit with Masks, powered by Firefly Image 5. The feature allows users to describe the edits they want using prompts while protecting specific parts of an image from changes. This may help users modify certain elements without affecting faces, logos, or other important details.
Adding on, the company also introduced Markup, which allows users to draw directly on an image to show the AI what changes they want. Users can highlight areas, draw arrows, or sketch rough shapes to provide visual instructions alongside prompts.
The software giant is also expanding Photoshop’s Dynamic Text feature. It will work with custom shapes and paths, allowing text to automatically follow curves and freeform layouts. Adobe has also integrated a new Stock Panel, providing access to more than 900 million Adobe Stock assets within Photoshop.
AI-Assisted Editor arrives in beta
The new AI-Assisted Editor offers a dedicated prompt-based interface for users who want a simpler way to make generative edits. It includes Prompt to Edit, Remove Background, Generative Expand, Generative Fill, Remove Tool and Generative Upscale.
AI Markup is also available within the new editor, allowing users to combine visual annotations with AI-generated edits.
Users who prefer Photoshop’s traditional Pro Editor can continue using it. Adobe is adding Prompt to Edit directly to the Contextual Task Bar, allowing users to make image-wide changes through natural-language instructions without manually selecting an area.
