The Canon EOS R is the company's first full frame mirrorless camera that is accompanied by four RF lenses and four types of mount adapter. The camera will be available for $2,299 (approx Rs 1.65 lakh) body-only or $3,399 (approx Rs 2.43 lakh) with the 24-105mm lens in October.

Expanding its EOS System, Japanese tech conglomerate Canon has announced a new addition to the family with the Canon EOS R mirrorless camera, the company's first full frame mirrorless camera. Accompanying the new camera body are four RF lenses and four types of mount adapters. The camera will be available for $2,299 (approx Rs 1.65 lakh) body-only or $3,399 (approx Rs 2.43 lakh) with the 24-105mm lens in October. The pre-orders will start starting September 12.

The EOS R camera ships with a 30.3-megapixel full-frame sensor with an ISO range of 100-40,000. It uses the dual-pixel autofocus technology and is complemented by Canon’s DIGIC 8 image processor. The camera has a touchscreen display and an OLED electronic viewfinder. There is an information panel on the top of the camera as well. When it comes to the lenses, they have a control ring and the regular dials for zooming and manual focus. With the control ring, a user can adjust aperture from the lens itself.

“The EOS R System employs the newly-developed RF Mount. With a large mount diameter and short back focus that allows for increased freedom when designing lenses and featuring a new mount transmission system for enhanced communication between the lens and camera body, the EOS R System realizes even higher image quality and enhanced usability,” Canon said in a statement.

The four EOS R lenses that Canon has launched are: a 24-105mm lens with f/4 aperture, a 50mm lens with f/1.2mm, a 28-70mm with f/2 and a 35mm f/1.8 macro lens. When it comes to the lens mount adapters, they are only availeble for EF and EF-S lenses. While one adapter is a plain way to use EF or EF-S lenses on the new RF mount, the second adapter offers a control ring while the third and fourth offer a control ring along with the ability to add a drop-in filter. “In order to take full advantage of the strengths of the new mount, the camera body features shooting functions distinctive of a new system that make use of such attributes as Dual Pixel CMOS AF phase detection autofocus technology and an electronic viewfinder (EVF), the company added.
