12 years ago, Tim Cook joined Apple and today he’s one of the most popular CEOs in the world and the face of one of the largest tech companies in the world. But Cook is 63 years old now. If we go by the book, people usually retire by the age of 60 years. But we haven’t heard anything remotely close to Cook’s retirement till now.

However, the tech-giant CEO recently said that as he grows old, times will become uncertain, and hence has plans of his own related to his succession. What are Tim Cook’s plans and who will be the next Apple CEO? Let’s find out.

In a recent interview given to BBC Sounds with singer-songwriter Dua Lipa, Tim Cook shared how he loved it at Apple and could not imagine a life without it. He even went ahead to say, “I’ll be there for a while.” This means that no new CEO is taking over Cook’s 12-year-old chair in the coming future.

But, he was quick to mention that life usually doesn’t go as per plan and hence he and his team have developed a succession plan, in case anything goes south. During the interview, he said,

“We’re a company that believes in working on succession plans, so we have very detailed succession plans.” He further added, “Because something that’s unpredictable can always happen, I can step off the wrong curb tomorrow — I pray that doesn’t happen.”

This simply means that Apple has charted everything out in case of an unfortunate event or for the time when Tim Cook steps down as the CEO. However, he refrained from taking any names, something we’ve all been waiting for. He did drop a hint and stated that whoever succeeds him will be someone who is already working at Apple. This means that Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of services, Craig Federighi, senior vice president of software engineering, and the current vice president of worldwide sales Mike Fenger could be in line as they all featured on Apple’s leadership webpage.

“My job is to prepare several people for the ability to succeed, and I really want the person to come from within Apple,” said Tim Cook during the interview with Dua Lipa.
