Apple updates its vintage products list with iPhone 8, 2013 Mac Pro and more

Apple has added as many as six devices to its vintage list. These include the iPhone 8, the 2013 Mac Pro, a few iPads and more. This means that Apple will stop all kinds of support for these devices. So, if you own any of these devices and they stop working, Apple doesn’t guarantee hardware replacements.

According to Apple’s Support page, a device is considered “vintage” five years after it was last distributed for sale. The support has ended, assuming that the products have been in the market for too long and most people would have stopped using them.

Among the list of products is the 2013 Mac Pro, which was one of the most-talked-about Apple products at the time of its launch because of its bold cylindrical shape. The 2013 Mac Pro was sold until December 2019, when the redesigned Mac Pro was introduced. The former’s closed layout made upgrades challenging, making the company dump it in 2019. Now, with more than five years of being discontinued, Apple has officially placed the 2013 model on its vintage list.

Along with the 2013 Mac Pro, the 2019-launched 13-inch MacBook Air, 2019 iMac, 2018 11-inch iPad Pro, and 2018 third-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro are also added to Apple’s vintage products list. Additionally, the iPhone 8 with 64GB, 128GB and 256GB storage have also joined the vintage list. It was one of the last iPhones to feature the physical home button.

  3. MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, 4 TBT3)
  4. MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2018)
  5. MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2019)
  6. iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2019)
  7. Mac mini (2018)
  8. iPhone 8 (64GB, 128GB, 256GB)
  9. iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd Generation) Wi-Fi
  10. iPad Pro 12.9 inch (3rd Generation) Wi-Fi + Cellular

While these products can still be used, Apple does not offer hardware support or spare parts for them.

For the uninitiated, Apple regularly updates its list of vintage and obsolete products as part of its support policy. Obsolete products are those that have been discontinued for more than seven years. They are not eligible to get any hardware services or assistance. However, Mac laptops may be eligible for an extended battery-only repair for up to 10 years from the date of their last distribution for sale, said Apple.
