Apple has reportedly put a hold on its plans to create a new version of its Vision Pro headset to focus on developing smart glasses that could compete with Meta’s products. The company had said to be working on a lighter and more affordable version of its headset, code-named N100, which was planned for release in 2027. However, Apple recently reassigned staff from that project to speed up the development of smart glasses, according to Bloomberg.
SurveySmart glasses are becoming a key focus for tech companies. Apple is said to be developing at least two types of smart glasses. The first, dubbed N50, will likely connect to an iPhone and won’t have its own display. Apple is expected to reveal this model as soon as next year, with a potential release in 2027.

The second version will reportedly feature its own display and could rival Meta’s recently launched Ray-Ban Display glasses. Initially planned for 2028, Apple is now accelerating work on this model as well.
Apple’s smart glasses will likely rely on voice commands and AI. Siri upgrades, reportedly planned for as early as March 2026, are expected to help power the new devices. The glasses are expected to come in multiple styles, and feature a new chip, speakers for music and cameras for media recordings.
The shift in focus comes after the Vision Pro’s disappointing debut. Priced at $3,499, the headset has been criticised for being heavy, expensive, and lacking sufficient apps and video content. Despite pausing the Vision Pro overhaul, Apple has not completely abandoned the idea of releasing a lighter, more affordable version in the future, according to the report.
