New expansion for Witcher 3 Wild Hunt?

Nearly a decade after its original release, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt might not be done telling stories just yet. New industry chatter, backed by subtle comments from the studio itself, suggests that CD Projekt could be quietly working on another expansion for its most celebrated role-playing game. And if the reports are true, fans may not have to wait very long to return to the Continent.

Whispers of fresh Witcher 3 content first began circulating last year, when Polish games industry insider Borys Nieśpielak claimed that an unannounced project tied to the game was in development. According to his report, the work was being handled by Fool’s Theory, the same studio currently entrusted with the remake of the original Witcher. At the time, the idea of new DLC for a 2015 title felt almost too good to be true. Since then, however, the rumours have only gotten stronger.

In its most recent financial report from November 2025, CD Projekt made a curious admission. Chief financial officer Piotr Nielubowicz spoke of “new content hinted upon in recent calls and reports” that could release in the coming year and potentially have a noticeable impact on the company’s results. While he stopped short of naming the project outright, the wording strongly suggested something more substantial than a minor update or collaboration.

That was not the only time the mystery project surfaced. During a follow-up investor call, joint CEO Michał Nowakowski mentioned an “other project” currently being worked on by Fool’s Theory, alongside references to The Witcher 1 remake and ongoing support for future Witcher titles. The implication was clear. There is something else in the pipeline, and it sits firmly within the Witcher universe.

Adding to the speculation, Polish analyst Mateusz Chrzanowski went a step further, predicting that the next paid DLC for The Witcher 3 could arrive as early as May 2026. Taken together, these comments paint a picture of a release that is not only real, but relatively close.

The Witcher 3 has already received two landmark expansions called Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. Now with another expansion reportedly on the way, fans have plenty to play, or replay, before the new game launches.

About Witcher 4

When CD Projekt finally lifted the curtain on the first trailer for The Witcher 4 a couple of months back, it was less about gameplay details and more about reassurance. The cinematic reveal confirmed that the studio is taking a long-term view of the franchise, setting the stage for a new saga while signalling a shift in focus away from Geralt. The game will tell the story of Ciri, and will be set in the previously unexplored region of Kovir.

The trailer leaned heavily into mood and world-building, reminding fans why the Witcher universe still holds so much pull, even years after The Witcher 3 first launched.
