CS2 Major: Eternal Fire, paiN, and ECSTATIC secure a spot in the Elimination stage on Day 3 of the Opening stage at the PGL CS2 Major 2024

Day 3 of the Opening stage of the PGL CS2 Major 2024, taking place in Copenhagen saw some of the most interesting Counter-Strike take place in the tournament so far. We had three more teams advance to the next stage of the tournament, the Elimination stage, and two teams who were shown the exit. Here’s a look at all that happened on the third day of the first CS2 Major championship.

XANTARES leads Eternal Fire into the Elimination stage

The first game had Eternal Fire facing off against Gamer Legion. Given that this was a qualification match where the winner would secure a spot in the Elimination stage of the Cs2 Major 2024, the efforts put in by both sides were insane. On their map pick in the Best-of-three (Bo3) series, Overpass, Gamer Legion romped past the defences of Eternal Fire, handing them a 13-4 defeat. Eternal Fire struck back with equal might in their map pick, Inferno and defeated Gamer Legion, 13-2.

Then, it came down to the last map of the series, Vertigo. Eternal Fire, banking on the insane performance of one of their most experienced frager, Ismailcan ‘XANTARES’ Dörtkardeş danced to victory and secure their spot in the Elimination stage of CS2 Major 2024. Gamer Legion put up a respectable fight, however, lost out their flare in the closing stages of the map, losing out 13-11.

Brazilian sweep at CS2 Major 2024

In the second game, which was an elimination match, the loser of which would be headed to de_airport, had Legacy taking on Apeks. After their run of form in the last CS:GO Major, the expectations were high for Apeks. However, their fires were doused by an insane team effort from the Brazillian squad, Legacy, with Marcelo ‘coldzera’ David and Co. keeping the hopes alive for their team, in the PGL CS2 Major 2024.

The Brazillian domination continued in the third game of the day, where we saw paiN taking on SAW. With two wins each in the bag, SAW and paiN were eager on securing their spot in the PGL CS2 Major 2024 Elimination stage. However, it was a clean sweep by the Brazillians who took home a 2-0 win over SAW, leaving them hanging, and booking their spot in the next stage of the tournament. For FURIA, another Brazillian squad at the Major, it was all smiles.

FURIA were pitted against ENCE in an elimination game, with both sides having managed to win only one game of the three that they had played. However, on Mirage and Ancient, the two maps that were played in the series, FURIA took home wins by comfortable margins. The scoreline on Mirage read 13-8, and on Ancient, ENCE managed to win one more round. But at the end, they were able to manage to manage to win only 9 rounds against the 13 of FURIA.

The Brazil hype train came to a screeching halt in the last match of the day, where Imperial lost their best of three series to ECSTATIC who advanced to the Elimination stage of the CS2 Major 2024. Both the squads dealt equally fatal blows to each other across the three maps. The first game played on Anubis, saw ECSTATIC take home the win, 13-4. In the second map, Inferno, we had Imperial bounce back 13-10. But, in the decider, ECSTATIC took home the win, and a seat on the bus to the Elimination stage of the PGL CS2 Major 2024, defeating Imeprial, 13-9.

What’s next at the PGL CS2 Major 2024?

With three more spots locked out in the Elimination stage of the PGL CS2 Major 2024, by Eternal Fire, paiN, and ECSTATIC, only three more remain. ENCE, Apeks, and Lynn Vision are out of the running, joining AMKAL and KOI on the way to de_airport. And, with three games on the last day of the Opening stage, set to decide the fate of six teams, we can expect some really interesting Counter-Strike action to take place on Day 4 of the Opening stage.

Will it be a Brazillian cheer by Imperial and Legacy or will TheMongolz, Gamer Legion, and SAW give fans of other regions a reason to cheer? Who knows? One thing is for certain that we will be getting some insane CS2 action on the final day of the Opening stage of the CS2 Major 2024.
