With Intel’s Core Ultra 7 258V, 32GB RAM, and a stunning build, it aims to challenge the best in its segment. 

Having used this machine as my daily driver for the past few weeks, I can confidently say that this is one of the most refined Windows laptops of 2024. The premium all-aluminium body, stunning Dolby Atmos-tuned speakers, and Intel Arc graphics that rival dedicated GPUs make it a compelling choice. But how does it truly perform against its competition? Does its AI-powered NPU offer meaningful advantages in real-world tasks? And can it justify its ₹1.5 lakh price tag in a competitive laptop market?

An Aura That Exudes Quality

The Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition is crafted from an all-aluminium chassis with a modern, minimalist aesthetic (available in a single dark Luna Grey colourway). It’s extremely slim and lightweight – just 0.55 inches (~14 mm) thick and around 1.5 kg in weight – putting it on par with other premium laptops like the 15-inch MacBook Air in terms of portability. Despite the thin profile, the build quality is excellent: the laptop feels sturdy with very little flex. 

In fact, it has passed MIL-STD 810H durability tests for resistance to shocks and vibration. The hinge mechanism is well-tuned, allowing the lid to open up to 180° flat.

The overall design is sleek and aesthetically refined, with comfortable rounded edges along the sides and palm rest for a better in-hand feel. Small touches like a reverse notch at the top of the display, housing the webcam, add character and practicality. It’s an opposite approach to the usual notch, making the Lenovo easier to open while avoiding any screen cut-out.

In terms of fit and finish, the Yoga Slim 7i Aura exudes a premium vibe comparable to flagship laptops. The unibody designs of devices like the Dell XPS or ThinkPad X1 series are often considered the benchmark for durability, offering a tank-like solidity. While the Slim 7i Aura may not surpass them, it comes remarkably close. It achieves a well-balanced mix of thinness, lightness, and durability, making it one of the standout options in its price range.

Best-in-class speakers

The Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition’s audio system is surprisingly powerful for an ultrabook. It features a quad-speaker setup with four 2 Watt speakers in total – two upward-firing tweeters flanking the keyboard and two downward-firing woofers on the underside – enhanced by Dolby Atmos tuning. This design allows the laptop to deliver loud, crisp, and immersive audio that feels all-encompassing. The stereo output maintains clarity in the highs and mids while offering a surprising depth of bass—something rarely found in slim laptops.

Unlike typical laptop speakers that often sound hollow or tinny, this setup preserves richness and detail, making overlapping tracks and subtle nuances in music easily distinguishable without distortion. At 100% volume, the sound remains clean and undistorted, with an impressively wide soundstage for a machine this size. Dolby Atmos software is preloaded to further enhance the experience, allowing you to switch presets (Dynamic, Music, Movie, Game) or custom-tune the equalizer to your liking.

Importantly, the speaker placement helps the audio shine: the top-firing drivers mean that when the laptop is on a desk, the sound isn’t muffled by the surface (unlike many bottom-firing speaker designs). The Yoga Slim 7i’s audio is among the best in the Windows ultrabook category. Its speakers deliver strong, crisp audio with excellent bass yet avoid the muddy distortion that most laptops suffer at high volumes.

In real-world terms, this Lenovo can fill a room with rich sound in a way that rivals the class-leading MacBook Air 15 – a laptop famous for its speakers. For casual listening or media consumption, you might not feel the need for external speakers at all.

In fact, the bass is so strong that sometimes you can even feel it through the laptop’s chassis. It is sort of a quirk but it is there to let you know that such a thin device actually has some solid bass. In summary, the Yoga Slim 7i Aura’s speakers are a standout feature that outshines most competitors in its class, adding significant value for media lovers.

Make Connections Forget Dongles

Despite its slim profile, the Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition offers a generous array of I/O ports, combining modern USB-C with useful legacy connectors. On the left side, it has a full-size HDMI 2.1 output (capable of driving 4K external displays at 120 Hz) and a Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port (which also supports Power Delivery charging and DisplayPort output), alongside a 3.5 mm headphone/mic combo jack.

The right side provides a second Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port (having one on each side makes charging or docking more convenient) as well as a USB-A port for connecting older peripherals, plus the power button and a physical webcam privacy switch (e-shutter) on the edge.

This mix is excellent for a modern ultrabook – you get the high-speed, versatile Thunderbolt 4 interfaces (40 Gb/s, useful for multi-monitor docks, eGPUs, etc.) without losing the practicality of HDMI for projectors or TVs and a USB-A for things like flash drives or mouse dongles. Many similarly-priced competitors have moved to an “all USB-C” approach, so the Yoga Slim 7i stands out by reducing dongle dependence. 

In terms of wireless connectivity, the Yoga Slim 7i Aura is thoroughly next-gen. It comes with the latest Wi-Fi 7 support and Bluetooth 5.4 on board. This is a step beyond most premium laptops in 2024–2025, which typically top out at Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2/5.3. In practical use, Wi-Fi 7 is still an emerging standard (you’ll need a Wi-Fi 7 router to fully benefit), but the laptop is essentially future-proofed on that front. 

In an Indian context, where high-speed fibre and Wi-Fi 6/6E routers are becoming common, the Yoga Slim 7i is ready for the next wave of upgrades.

Lunar Lake Delivers in Performance & Efficiency

The Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition marks a major milestone for Windows laptops by delivering consistent performance whether plugged in or running on battery, a challenge that x86 CPUs from Intel and AMD have historically struggled with. Running AAA games at 1200p medium settings, the laptop maintains a steady 40 FPS regardless of power mode, while indie titles like Death’s Door and Hades run at native 1800p high settings with smooth frame rates. 

Beyond gaming, the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V excels in single-core performance, making everyday tasks, browsing, and light creative workloads feel snappy. However, in multi-core performance, AMD and Qualcomm’s latest chips still hold an edge, though the difference is not significant for typical thin-and-light users. That said, efficiency and silent operation matter more than raw power in this category, and Lenovo has tuned the system well. During my two weeks with the laptop, the fans barely spun up to become loud or annoying, keeping it impressively quiet even under load.

The real standout feature is its power efficiency. At idle, the laptop draws only 4W, while under moderate workloads, it stays around 30–35W, making it one of the most power-efficient Windows ultrabooks in its class. It consistently gives 12 hours of screen-on time, making it a solid option. 

To put it simply, the Yoga Slim 7i Aura delivers one of the best performance-to-efficiency balances in the Windows ultrabook segment. With a well-optimized CPU, solid GPU efficiency, and minimal thermal noise, it excels in maintaining consistent performance on both battery and AC power. 

All-Day Endurance and Then Some

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition delivers strong battery performance, achieving around 16 hours and 10 minutes in PCMark 10 Extended tests. In real-world usage, battery life reaches around 12 hours of screen time. Despite this, some background drain issues persist, indicating room for further optimization. With a 70Wh battery and Intel’s Ultra chip, it offers great raw efficiency, and even better on-battery performance.

AI and Neural Processing

One of the Yoga Slim 7i Aura’s modern features is its integrated NPU (Neural Processing Unit), branded Intel AI Boost, capable of up to 47 trillion operations per second. This AI silicon lets the Yoga accelerate tasks like image recognition, video conferencing enhancements, and certain creative workloads on-device, without taxing the CPU.

Furthermore, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition stands out with AI-powered software optimizations that enhance performance, efficiency, and usability. Lenovo AI Engine+ dynamically adjusts power, cooling, and performance, ensuring consistent speeds on battery and AC power. Smart Sense fine-tunes CPU and GPU performance to reduce fan noise, while 

AI-powered battery optimizations extend screen-on time by managing background processes. Smart Presence Detection dims or locks the screen when you step away, and AI-enhanced noise cancellation improves calls. The Lenovo Vantage app provides battery conservation, privacy alerts, and adaptive refresh rates, while Smart Charging prevents battery degradation. 

But how’s the deal?

Overall, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition proves itself a highly capable, well-balanced ultrabook. Its CPU holds its own against any thin-and-light in its class, punching hard in everyday tasks and only yielding in extreme multi-threaded scenarios to a few specialised rivals.

Its integrated GPU is class-leading, giving creative users and casual gamers a real boost that most competitors simply can’t match without adding a discrete GPU. Battery life is a slam dunk, arguably Lenovo’s biggest advantage. And for a thin 15-inch premium notebook around ₹1.5 lakh, it hits a sweet spot. As it blends power, endurance, and innovation in a way few competitors currently do.

To put it simply, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition stands out as one of the top ultrabook choices for 2024-25, offering an ideal balance of performance and efficiency, just enough to make it your next thin and light laptop.
