AMD has demonstrated its 14nm FinFET Polaris GPU architecture. The company claims that the new GPU delivers a remarkable jump in power efficiency. The company expects shipments of the Polaris architecture-based GPUs to start from mid-2016. Polaris-based GPUS are specifically designed for gaming, VR, and multimedia applications running on computers with a small and thin form-factor. The GPU architecture features AMD’s fourth generation Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture and a next-generation display engine with support for HDMI 2.0a and DisplayPort 1.3. It also features 4K h.265 encoding and decoding.
