After two years, Apple finally gave the iPads a much-needed upgrade. It was long due and fans were extremely excited for the event and what Apple could unveil. Apple launched the iPad Air M2 and iPad Pro M4, but the iPad Mini didn’t make it to the party. And Apple also unveiled the M4 chipset. This made the iPad Pro the fastest iPad ever. However, Apple conveniently missed out on one detail which makes you lose out on performance. Let me tell you about it.

So, we all know that Apple is offering the iPad in two variants 11-inch and 13-inch. They come in different configurations, this includes 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and a whopping 2TB. You might think that all of these variants would offer the same performance because all of them have the same M4 chip, but you’re wrong.

Apple has configured the M4 chip differently

If you buy the base storage variant of iPad Pro, i.e. 256GB and 512GB, then the M4 chip in it will have a 9-core CPU configuration, comprising three performance cores and six efficiency cores.

But if you choose the higher variants, 1TB and 2TB, then you will get a 10-core CPU configuration, featuring four performance cores and six efficiency cores.

Apart from that, the base variants come with only 8GB RAM and the 1TB and 2TB variants feature 16GB RAM.

What is the difference between the two iPad Pro M4 variants?

Well, this isn’t the first time that Apple has made such a move. The benchmark scores do reveal that there are slight performance discrepancies between the 9-core and 10-core CPU configurations. But truth be told, users will not be able to notice much difference during their daily tasks.

But if you get the higher variants, the M4 chip which will have a 10-core GPU along with a 16-core Neural Engine that is dedicated to machine learning and artificial intelligence tasks, you will get to experience hardware-accelerated ray tracing capabilities and a swift 120GB/s memory bandwidth.
