Samsung details its upcoming wearable with a slimmer body and thinner watch straps. The wearable is expected to launch with a streamlined user interface and glanceable information.

Samsung is said to be working on a new wearable device that would combine the best bits of company's Gear S3 smartwatch and the Gear Fit 2 fitness tracker. The South Korean giant has shared some details regarding the product as part of a survey it sent out to members of its SmartLab Plus program.

The details were first spotted by Sammobile and hints at a hybrid wearable device with the design of Gear S3 and functionality of Gear Fit 2. The Gear S3 is a smartwatch running Tizen, while the Gear Fit 2 is a dedicated fitness tracker. "The new product concept takes the best bits from Gear S3 and Gear Fit 2," Samsung notes in its survey. The company seems to be collecting opinions on some taglines that are being considered for this new product.

It also adds that the product is in the form of a smartwatch for now, and sports a smaller body with thinner watch straps. The straps will be user replaceable and the wearable device will be waterproof, making it ideal for swimming. It will also include functions like activity tracking, calorie management, active sports and coaching. The survey also mentions a revised user interface with glanceable information. The wearable is also tipped to offer alerts to stay active while on a flight and take breaks while driving. The device is primarily designed to be used all day.

The wearable industry has been struggling with adoption and a few weeks ago, it was reported that Xiaomi and Apple have overtaken Fitbit as leading wearable brands globally. It remains unclear when Samsung intends to launch this product, but it will be hoping to regain some market share from Fitbit and the others.
